Trump: Trade deficit down 33.8% year-to-date

Trump's Truth Social latest posts08-29

President Donald Trump on August 28 posted on X, citing data from Fox News host Laura Ingraham that showed the U.S. goods and services trade deficit decreased by $189.3 billion, or 33.8%, year-to-date compared to the same period in 2025.

Trump noted that exports increased by $198.3 billion, or 11.7%, while imports rose by only $9.0 billion, or 0.4%. He asked: "Where are all the experts who claimed that the tariffs would kill our exports?" Trump called it "GOOD NEWS TUESDAY…IN ADDITION TO THE DOW AND OIL DOWN."

The data highlights a significant narrowing of the trade deficit and a strong export performance, which Trump used to defend his tariff policies.
