Trump: Trade deficit down 33.8%, exports up 11.7%

Trump's Truth Social latest posts08-29

President Donald Trump on August 28 posted on X, citing Fox News host Laura Ingraham's data, saying that the U.S. goods and services trade deficit decreased by $189.3 billion, or 33.8 percent, from the same period in 2025. Exports increased by $198.3 billion, or 11.7 percent, while imports rose by $9.0 billion, or 0.4 percent.

Trump questioned: "Where are all the experts who claimed that the tariffs would kill our exports?" He called it "GOOD NEWS TUESDAY…IN ADDITION TO THE DOW AND OIL DOWN....The trade deficit is going down, and exports are up for the year so far."

Ingraham's data showed a significant narrowing of the trade deficit and strong export growth. Trump's remarks reinforced his argument that tariff policies benefit the U.S. economy, but he did not provide specific policy details or future actions.
