President Donald Trump announced on social media platform X on September 4 that the U.S. added 162,000 jobs in August, breaking all estimates (except his own) by double and triple, adding "And you haven't seen anything yet!"
Trump stated that a stronger U.S. credit means a lower interest rate, and called on the Federal Reserve to "get smart - BE PATRIOTS for a change." He threatened to stop trading with countries with which the U.S. has a trade deficit, citing the president's absolute right to do so as acknowledged by the Supreme Court. "LOWER THE RATE OR I'LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT," he wrote.
Trump argued that high interest rates put the U.S. at a very unfair disadvantage and that he will not allow that to happen. He demanded the U.S. have the lowest interest rate of any country in the world, "like 'the old days.'"
