President Donald Trump announced on social media platform X on September 4 that Michael Cohen, the prosecution's star witness in the New York State Attorney General and Manhattan District Attorney cases against him, has fully recanted his testimony. Trump stated that Cohen was "pressured" and "coerced" to say things that were not true, and thanked him for having the "Wisdom and Courage" to step forward and do the right thing.
Trump called Cohen's act of bravery "a Great Credit to the Justice System in New York City and State" and urged that any remnant of those "Politically Weaponized Cases" against him be immediately terminated and dismissed. He accused Letitia James and Alvin Bragg of breaking the law to prevent him from becoming President of the United States, adding: "Such a thing can never be allowed to happen again!"
According to Trump's post, Cohen was the only witness in the cases, but has now fully recanted. Trump wrote: "Their Star Witness said everything they did was WRONG and UNLAWFUL!" The claim could not be independently verified.
