TikTok Settles With Alabama Ahead of Trial on Mental Harms for Young Users

ByteDance's short video app TikTok reached a settlement with the government of Alabama following allegations that the Chinese tech company designed the app to hook children and expose young users to mental harms, according to a statement from the state's attorney-general's office Friday.
The settlement comes before Alabama's case against TikTok would go to trial on Monday, the state's attorney-general said.
Under the settlement, Alabama will receive a minimum of $100 million within 45 days and could get up to $300 million if certain conditions are met.
The app will also enforce controls on night access, as well as bans on cosmetic filters, and will grant feature controls for parents.
