China Mobile (SHA:600941, HKG:0941), China Telecom (SHA:601728, HKG:0728), and China Unicom (HKG:0762) suspended their "free phone" offers, following a wave of customer complaints, The Standard reported Sunday.
The promotions appeared to offer a free handset upon subscribing to a telecom plan, but customers said they were required to sign loan contracts with repayments billed monthly, according to the report.
China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
