Japanese Stocks Advance on US Tech Rally, BoJ October Decision in Focus

MT Newswires Live09:46

Japanese equities advanced in early Monday trading, driven by positive spillover from a Wall Street rally led by technology shares during the previous session.

The Nikkei 225 opened 141.7 points, or 0.2%, higher at 66,505.94.

At home, a former Bank of Japan executive director in charge of monetary policy suggested the central bank could raise its benchmark rate for a second consecutive month at its October meeting, Bloomberg News reported Monday.

Elsewhere, Iran maintained its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days without easing its conditions, while President Donald Trump said he expects talks to resume this week despite rejecting Tehran's latest offer.
