Before this recent downturn, Coca-Cola was one of the few high-profile stocks enjoying a gain in 2022.It looks like a surging dollar has finally caused the shares to sell off as this global giant derives about two-thirds of its revenue internationally. Here's why the decline makes for a buying opportunity for this blue-chip stock.Playing defenseWhile the current sell-off is certainly not fun for shareholders, the company's overall performance this year has burnished its reputation as a defensive stock. Coca-Cola is down 7% year to date, but it is vastly outperforming the broader market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite are all in bear market territory, down 20%, 24.5%, and 33% respectively. This outperformance during a time of turmoil shows the value of a stock like Coca-Cola. Holding a dominant consumer staples blue-chip like Coca-Cola can help investors preserve capital during a market downturn. People buy products like Coke and Diet Coke on a frequent basis, and are unlikely to change their habits because of a recession or market downturn. The market recognizes this stability and gives Coca-Cola credit for it.Ramping up shareholder returnsJust as surely as you can count on seeing Coca-Cola commercials featuring the iconic polar bears drinking Cokes come Christmastime, you can count on Coca-Cola to increase its dividend like clockwork each and every year. The company has a dividend track record that's hard to match. After increasing its quarterly dividend by about 5% this past February, Coca-Cola has now increased its annual dividend payout for 60 years in a row, making it not only a Dividend Aristocrat, but also a Dividend King. The company paid out a whopping $7.3 billion in dividends to shareholders in 2021, and has paid out over $70 billion since 2010. Shares of Coca-Cola yield about 3.2% on a forward basis. One thing to keep in mind with Coca-Cola's dividend is that its dividend payout ratio is now 80%. This is a bit higher than investors typically want to see, and while it does not mean that Coca-Cola's dividend is in any danger (the company has plenty of cash on its balance sheet), it could limit how much Coca-Cola will increase its dividend payout, and it leaves it with less flexibility if earnings decline.Beyond dividends, Coca-Cola also said it would resume share repurchases in 2022, and that it could buy back up to $500 million worth. In the second quarter alone, the company bought back $461 million. While this isn't a major share repurchase program for a company with a $250 billion market cap, it's good to see Coca-Cola resuming buybacks and the dividend plus share repurchases all add to incremental returns for investors.Old dog, new tricksCoca-Cola may be a 130-year-old company, but that doesn't mean that this old dog can't learn new tricks. It recently teamed up with Molson Coors Beverage to launch alcoholic drinks like the trendy Topo Chico Ranch Water Hard Seltzer as well as Simply Spiked Lemonade. The company also linked up with Brown-Forman to launch a pre-made ready-to-drink version of the famous Jack and Coke cocktail.Market research firm ISWR found the ready-to-drink cocktail segment grew by 51% in 2021, far outpacing the growth of the overall alcoholic beverage industry. Now, Coca-Cola is ramping up its relationship with Molson Coors and building on the success of the Topo Chico Hard Seltzers to launch Topo Chico Spirited, which will come to 20 U.S. markets next year.Topo Chico Hard Seltzer has been a major success for Coca-Cola and Molson Coors, with Molson-Coors CEO Gavin Hattersley stating that Topo Chico Hard Seltzer's share of the U.S. hard seltzer market grew to over 9% during the second quarter. Furthermore, market research company IRI finds that Topo Chico Hard Seltzer is the fastest-growing hard seltzer brand over the past year.Buy the dip on Coca-ColaCoca-Cola is a blue-chip stock that has proven its defensive credentials over the past year. The company has preserved its shareholders' capital at a time when many stocks have endured heavy losses. The company has a stellar dividend track record and is buying back shares again, and my only concern in this area is the high dividend payout ratio. The beverage king has demonstrated a strong ability to iterate on its product lineup and launch successful new products like Topo Chico Hard Seltzer and Simply Spiked Lemonade. Coca-Cola is expected to increase earnings by 7% this year and 5% next year, so it keeps chugging along at a time when some companies are worried about earnings declining. It's rare to get the chance to buy a powerhouse like this near its 52-week low, making this a good time to add shares of Coca-Cola to your portfolio as a long-term holding.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"KO":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2232,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9910799548,"gmtCreate":1663679412285,"gmtModify":1676537314051,"author":{"id":"3579236690659078","authorId":"3579236690659078","name":"JemP","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cc9231e18ef20b53bdfefe5eba40161c","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579236690659078","authorIdStr":"3579236690659078"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Agreed","listText":"Agreed","text":"Agreed","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9910799548","repostId":"1182636577","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1182636577","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1663661541,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1182636577?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-09-20 16:12","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Stocks to Avoid This Week","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1182636577","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"These investments seem pretty vulnerable right now.","content":"
\n
KEY POINTSStitch Fix and Lennar report earnings this week. They're vulnerable now.The Merge wasn't enough to save Coinbase last week, and this week might not get any easier.Stocks historically move higher, but Stitch Fix, Lennar, and Coinbase might fail to beat the market this week. One bad call can ruin your week. The \"three stocks to avoid\" in my column last week that I thought were going to lose to the market -- Latch, InnovAge Holding, and Coinbase Gloal -- fell 7%, soared 46%, and sank 8%, respectively, averaging out to a 10.3% gain. The S&P 500 experienced a 4.8% move lower, so I was wrong, but I have still been right in 30 of the past 48 weeks. Now let's look at the week ahead. I see Stitch Fix, Lennar, and, again, Coinbase as stocks you might want to consider steering clear of this week. Let's go over my near-term concerns with all three investments.IMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.1. Stitch FixOffering stylist-curated outfits by mail hasn't been a very good business model lately. Stitch Fix has posted four consecutive quarters of sharply decelerating revenue growth, clocking in with a decline in revenue in its latest report. This is horrible momentum heading into the fiscal fourth-quarter numbers that it will announce on Tuesday afternoon. If the business was slowing as we clawed our way out of the pandemic, how do you think Stitch Fix will hold up now that folks are spending less money outside of food essentials? The model has gone through some changes, but it can't seem to gain traction with poorly dressed folks who would appreciate having fashionistas on their side. The balance sheet is still in decent shape, but analysts don't see Stitch Fix turning a profit until at lest fiscal 2027. With the model being upended, it's hard to picture anything positive emerging out of this week's financial update.2. LennarStitch Fix isn't the only company reporting what could be problematic quarterly results. A couple of homebuilders will be reporting results on Wednesday, and Lennar is one that could disappoint the market. The Florida homebuilder has feasted from the red-hot housing market that has been particularly scintillating in the Sunshine State. The near-term outlook won't be so great.Borrowing costs are rising. The inventory of available homes across the country is shooting higher. Sellers are slashing their asking prices. All three of these new realities will eat into Lennar's business. The single-digit trailing-earnings multiples you see across the industry are a facade. Analysts already see Lennar's revenue and earnings per share declining 7% and 11%, respectively, next year. It could be a lot worse than that if the real estate market continues to go the wrong way. This week's report might not be horrible, but its guidance should be cautious -- and that could be enough to spook investors.3. CoinbaseSingling out Coinbase as a stock to avoid last week paid off. Shares of the country's leading crypto exchange tumbled 10%, more than double the overall market's slide. I don't usually repeat a pick after it takes a hit, but I think there could be more near-term pain here. The Merge -- the successful migration of Ethereum to the more efficient proof-of-stake protocol -- didn't ease the crypto bear market last week. What's the next lever to get digital currencies rolling again? Traders are cooling on Coinbase. The $803 million it generated in revenue in its latest quarter is less than a third (yes, less than a third) of what it served up just two reports earlier. It's going to be a bumpy road for some of these investments. If you're looking for safe stocks, you aren't likely to find them in Stitch Fix, Lennar, and Coinbase this week.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"SFIX":0.9,"COIN":0.9,"LEN":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2822,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9937780877,"gmtCreate":1663505227399,"gmtModify":1676537280492,"author":{"id":"3579236690659078","authorId":"3579236690659078","name":"JemP","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cc9231e18ef20b53bdfefe5eba40161c","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579236690659078","authorIdStr":"3579236690659078"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Agreed","listText":"Agreed","text":"Agreed","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9937780877","repostId":"1173427551","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1173427551","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1663466859,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1173427551?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-09-18 10:07","market":"us","language":"en","title":"ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures ETF: Don't Be Lured In","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1173427551","media":"Seeking Alpha","summary":"SummaryStocks have turned sour again, and some are wondering if owning ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Ter","content":"

Summary

Stocks have turned sour again, and some are wondering if owning ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures ETF may be a good idea.

Beware of (1) the tendency of the VIX to revert to the mean and (2) the structure of UVXY, which makes it a money loser overtime.

The risks of placing a bet here are substantial, and probably not worth the trouble.

DNY59

I have recently been asked by a member of the mainstream financial media for my thoughts on the ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures ETF (BATS:UVXY). With the recent stock market rout, when the S&P 500 (SPY) dipped by over 4% in a single session, UVXY jumped 13% just as quickly. When it seems so hard to make money in the markets nowadays, betting on an asset that tends to benefit from bearishness and increased volatility may sound like a compelling proposition.

But in line with my previous thoughts on this ETF, I continue to think that all investors and even most short-term traders should be very careful with UVXY, if not avoid it altogether. Below, I explain why, in more detail.

The ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures ETF is a 1.5x leveraged VIX fund that places long bets on short-term VIX futures contracts. Mechanically, the ETF is positioned today as follows:

$1.15 billion in cash, which is effectively the size of the fund

$1.45 billion in notional value allocated to the VIX October contract

$279 million in notional value allocated to the VIX September contract

The fund has been around since 2011. Over this period of time, it has produced cumulative returns of -99.99%, as the following chart depicts, despite the VIX itself having held up much better (more on this phenomenon further below). UVXY trades about 60 million shares daily, making it highly liquid. The expense ratio is high, at 95 bps per year.

UVXY data by YCharts

Betting on the volatility index

Some traders looking to place a bet on UVXY may start by thinking about the volatility index itself. The market is faced with a myriad of factors that add uncertainty to the mix — probably the biggest item being how long inflation will linger, and how far interest rates will rise as a result. This is fertile ground for the VIX to rise.

On the other hand, the VIX is already at 26, and the markets have been bracing for this choppy ride for a few months now. The volatility index has averaged 15 to 17 historically, and it tends to revert to the mean over time like clockwork. I have done the math in a previous article, in a backtest that went back to 1990 (see chart below), and concluded that betting on the VIX rising when it sits below the long-term average and the S&P 500 is hovering around its all-time high, not the opposite, is the better play.

DM Martins Research

UVXY is likely not the right tool

Regardless of the direction of the stock market and the VIX, UVXY is still unlikely to be a good bet today — and most other days, to be frank.

It is important to understand how UVXY establishes its positions. It goes long short-term VIX futures contracts, then rolls them forward each month. This process creates what is known as negative roll yield (assuming that the VIX curve is in contango, which it usually is), as the fund consistently "buys high and sells low".

As a result, UVXY is designed to be a money loser over time. Notice, for example, that the ETF has been down 18% for the year, despite the VIX index itself being up nearly 50% during the same period. Therefore, even if a trader is right about the direction of the VIX, his or her UVXY bet may still end up being a money pit in the end.

Don't be lured in

It is human nature to seek quick and "easy" gains whenever possible, especially when other market participants are struggling to turn a profit. Think of the start of the pandemic, in Q1 2020, when UVXY jumped 900% in only one month while the S&P 500 reached 32% below its all-time high.

But don't be lured into the trap. History says that, given enough time, maybe as little as a few months, there is a much greater chance that UVXY will be a value destroyer, not a value creator.

For this reason, I don't think that investors should get involved with the ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures ETF. I believe that UVXY is better suited for traders who can afford to keep an eye on price action daily, if not hourly. The price movements in a volatility fund tend to be sizable, let alone one that is leveraged at a factor of 1.5x. So, the risks of placing a bet here are substantial, and probably not worth the trouble.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures ETF: Don't Be Lured In
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures ETF: Don't Be Lured In\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-09-18 10:07 GMT+8 Seeking Alpha\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
SummaryStocks have turned sour again, and some are wondering if owning ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures ETF may be a good idea.Beware of (1) the tendency of the VIX to revert to the mean and (2)...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"UVXY":"1.5倍做多短期期货恐慌指数ETF-Proshares"},"source_url":"https://seekingalpha.com/article/4541333-proshares-ultra-vix-short-term-futures-etf-dont-be-lured-in","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1173427551","content_text":"SummaryStocks have turned sour again, and some are wondering if owning ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures ETF may be a good idea.Beware of (1) the tendency of the VIX to revert to the mean and (2) the structure of UVXY, which makes it a money loser overtime. The risks of placing a bet here are substantial, and probably not worth the trouble.DNY59I have recently been asked by a member of the mainstream financial media for my thoughts on the ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures ETF (BATS:UVXY). The market is faced with a myriad of factors that add uncertainty to the mix — probably the biggest item being how long inflation will linger, and how far interest rates will rise as a result. This is fertile ground for the VIX to rise.On the other hand, the VIX is already at 26, and the markets have been bracing for this choppy ride for a few months now. The volatility index has averaged 15 to 17 historically, and it tends to revert to the mean over time like clockwork. I have done the math in a previous article, in a backtest that went back to 1990 (see chart below), and concluded that betting on the VIX rising when it sits below the long-term average and the S&P 500 is hovering around its all-time high, not the opposite, is the better play.DM Martins ResearchUVXY is likely not the right toolRegardless of the direction of the stock market and the VIX, UVXY is still unlikely to be a good bet today — and most other days, to be frank. It is important to understand how UVXY establishes its positions. It goes long short-term VIX futures contracts, then rolls them forward each month. This process creates what is known as negative roll yield (assuming that the VIX curve is in contango, which it usually is), as the fund consistently \"buys high and sells low\".As a result, UVXY is designed to be a money loser over time. Notice, for example, that the ETF has been down 18% for the year, despite the VIX index itself being up nearly 50% during the same period. Therefore, even if a trader is right about the direction of the VIX, his or her UVXY bet may still end up being a money pit in the end.Don't be lured inIt is human nature to seek quick and \"easy\" gains whenever possible, especially when other market participants are struggling to turn a profit. So, the risks of placing a bet here are substantial, and probably not worth the trouble.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"UVXY":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2925,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9934462753,"gmtCreate":1663290955872,"gmtModify":1676537244877,"author":{"id":"3579236690659078","authorId":"3579236690659078","name":"JemP","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cc9231e18ef20b53bdfefe5eba40161c","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579236690659078","authorIdStr":"3579236690659078"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Very good","listText":"Very good","text":"Very good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9934462753","repostId":"1139061502","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1139061502","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1663284200,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1139061502?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-09-16 07:23","market":"us","language":"en","title":"S&P 500 Slid Toward Key 3,900 Level But Held Its Ground Thanks to Options","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1139061502","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Traders monetize or roll out puts ahead of Friday’s expiryThat forces market makers to buy stocks to","content":"
\n
Traders monetize or roll out puts ahead of Friday’s expiryThat forces market makers to buy stocks to stay market neutralA chart line where thousands of options trades are clustered put a tenuous floor...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"lsy1584095487587","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Thursday was still a bruising day for bulls, with stocks losing more than 1% for the second drop in three days.Traders watching the price action in stocks saw the S&P 500 slide toward the 3,900 level four different times, before holding its ground. The resilience can be attributed to Friday’s $3.2 trillion option expiration, one theory holds.About 22,000 puts expiring Friday linked to the equity index with a 3,900 strike price changed hands, with the cost, or implied volatility, falling almost 2 points over a span of two hours in early trading, according to Cantor Fitzgerald LP.The drop in prices suggested that those contracts were either sold for a profit or rolled out to long term options, says Matthew Tym, the firm’s head of equity derivatives trading. Such moves prompted options dealers who were on the other side of the transaction to buy shares to maintain a neutral market exposure, likely acting as a buffer.“You would take this option that suddenly has value again and roll it down and out to give yourself more time, if you have a desire to keep a certain level of protection,” Tym said. “If someone is buying that put from you, they’d need to buy stocks to be delta neutral.”The 3,900 level has become abattle linefor bulls and bears in recent months, acting as a support in mid-May and then keeping a lid on advances briefly in June and July. After managing to close above the threshold during a retreat on Sept. 6, the S&P 500 embarked on a four-day rally. The benchmark index fell as low as 3,888 Thursday before ending down 1.1% at 3,901.35, extending its worst week since mid-June. The decline resumed the selloff Tuesday, when a hotter-than-expected inflation reading triggered the worst equity slump in more than two years.“Two weeks ago, the sentiment would have been ‘buy the dip,’”said Larry Weiss, head of equity trading at Instinet. “Now it’s ‘watch the false rally.’”While bulls may find comfort in the market’s buoyancy above 3,900, Thursday’s decline took the S&P 500 below a trough that the gauge established on a closing basis earlier this month.Another level to watch is the intraday low of 3,886.75 reached on Sept. 6, according to Matt Maley, chief market strategist at Miller Tabak + Co. Should it give away, it’d form a lower low that may herald more losses, he says.“That will confirm that the second leg of the 2022 bear market is in full force and a retest of the June lows will be all but inevitable,” Maley said.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"SPY":0.9,".SPX":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1966,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9938287717,"gmtCreate":1662614490839,"gmtModify":1676537101537,"author":{"id":"3579236690659078","authorId":"3579236690659078","name":"JemP","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cc9231e18ef20b53bdfefe5eba40161c","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579236690659078","authorIdStr":"3579236690659078"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great thanks","listText":"Great thanks","text":"Great thanks","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9938287717","repostId":"1169599277","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1169599277","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1662598551,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1169599277?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-09-08 08:55","market":"sg","language":"en","title":"Singapore Stocks to Watch: Nio, Frasers Property, Chip Eng Seng, Watches.Com","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1169599277","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"THE following companies saw new developments that may affect trading of their securities on Thursday","content":"

THE following companies saw new developments that may affect trading of their securities on Thursday (Sep 8):

Nio (NIO): Higher expenses, including for research and development, weighed on the latest performance of Chinese electric carmaker Nio, with the company widening its net loss for Q2 ended June to 2.7 billion yuan (S$545 million), from 659.3 million yuan the year before.

Revenue for the quarter rose 21.8 per cent to 10.3 billion yuan, with vehicle sales up 21 per cent to 9.6 billion yuan. The company argues that there are already billions of USB-A adapters in the world that customers can use to charge their devices.Apple said Tuesday that it would continue working with SENACON, Brazil’s consumer protection agency, to “address their concerns and plan to appeal this decision.”“We’ve already won a number of court decisions in Brazil on this topic and are confident our customers are aware of the various options to charge and connect their devices,” the Cupertino, California-based company said.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AAPL":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2554,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9995777185,"gmtCreate":1661525698449,"gmtModify":1676536535357,"author":{"id":"3579236690659078","authorId":"3579236690659078","name":"JemP","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cc9231e18ef20b53bdfefe5eba40161c","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579236690659078","authorIdStr":"3579236690659078"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Gg its over","listText":"Gg its over","text":"Gg its over","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9995777185","repostId":"1189921293","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1189921293","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1661522489,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1189921293?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-26 22:01","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Powell Warns of \"Some Pain\" Ahead As the Fed Fights to Bring Down Inflation","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1189921293","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell delivered a stern commitment Friday to halting inflation, war","content":"

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell delivered a stern commitment Friday to halting inflation, warning that he expects the central bank to continue raising interest rates in a way that will cause "some pain" to the U.S. economy.

In his much-anticipated annual policy speech at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Powell affirmed that the Fed will "use our tools forcefully" to attack inflation that is still running near its highest level in more than 40 years.

Even with a series of four consecutive interest rate increases totaling 2.25 percentage points, Powell said this is "no place to stop or pause" even though benchmark rates are probably around an area considered neither stimulative nor restrictive on growth.

"While higher interest rates, slower growth, and softer labor market conditions will bring down inflation, they will also bring some pain to households and businesses," he said in prepared remarks. In that case, then-Fed Chairman Paul Volcker pulled the economy into recession to tame inflation. While stating repeatedly that he doesn’t think recession is an inevitable outcome for the U.S. economy, Powell noted that managing expectations is critical if the Fed is going to avoid a Volcker-like outcome. In the early 1980s, “a lengthy period of very restrictive monetary policy was ultimately needed to stem the high inflation and start the process of getting inflation down to the low and stable levels that were the norm until the spring of last year,” Powell said. “Our aim is to avoid that outcome by acting with resolve now.”One concept molding Powell’s thinking is the concept of “rational inattention.” Essentially, that means people pay less attention to inflation when it is low and more when it is high.\"Of course, inflation has just about everyone's attention right now, which highlights a particular risk today: The longer the current bout of high inflation continues, the greater the chance that expectations of higher inflation will become entrenched,\" he said.U.S. stocks tumble, Treasury yields rise as Powell reiterates Fed’s commitment to curbing inflation.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".IXIC":0.9,".DJI":0.9,".SPX":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2947,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9025362241,"gmtCreate":1653622656883,"gmtModify":1676535316857,"author":{"id":"3579236690659078","authorId":"3579236690659078","name":"JemP","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/cc9231e18ef20b53bdfefe5eba40161c","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579236690659078","authorIdStr":"3579236690659078"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like pls","listText":"Like pls","text":"Like pls","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9025362241","repostId":"1100418114","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1100418114","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1653619392,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1100418114?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-05-27 10:43","market":"us","language":"en","title":"PLTR Stock Gains Over 5% as Palantir Announces New Partnerships","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1100418114","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"Palantir(NYSE:PLTR) signed two new deals sending its stock higher. One is with waste and recycling ma","content":"
\n
Palantir(NYSE:PLTR) signed two new deals sending its stock higher. One is with waste and recycling marketplace operatorRubicon Technologies. The other is with automaker Stellantis N.V.Palantir(NYSE:PLTR...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html;
