The main factor behind this has been a spate of analyst upgrades for shares in the China-based electric vehicle (EV) maker.Confidence is rising again that the company’s production ramp-up will result in a big jump in sales for the rest of 2022, and going into 2023. Yet before you decide to jump in, and chase its recent rally, it’s hardly a lock that results in the coming quarter will live up to today’s elevated hopes. The ramp-up may still fail to produce results in line with expectations. This may cause the stock to give back recent gains. In the long term, Nio’s global expansion could also fall short of expectations. With high growth heavily priced in, it may not take much for today’s renewed bullishness to reverse. Why NIO Stock Has Surged Post-EarningsNio may have beat on revenue for the second quarter, but the results were hardly much to get excited about. As expected, China’s pandemic shutdowns continued to decelerate growth, on a year-over-year basis, and especially on a sequential basis.Even worse, the EV maker reported a higher-than-expected net loss. Compared to the prior year’s quarter, net losses per share were up 316.4%. Still, instead of reacting negatively to Q2 results, the market focused instead on the company’s outlook for Q3, which calls for a speeding back up of growth. This resulted in a slight uptick for NIO stock right after earnings but analyst upgrades sent shares soaring. As InvestorPlace’s Eddie Pan reported Sep 12, two analysts (Deutsche Bank’s Edison Yu, and BofA’s Ming-Hsun Lee) have reiterated their “buy” ratings, and have upped their price targets. Both analysts are bullish deliveries will re-accelerate considerably during Q4. This is due to a combination of the production ramp-up, plus Nio’s launch of new vehicle models. Yet while the situation may be improving, it may not be to the extent implied by the stock’s latest spike. How Its Latest Uptick Could ReverseAs buzz returns to NIO stock, it may seem that now’s the time to buy, ahead of a continued comeback. Unfortunately, there’s a lot to suggest that its latest surge may be short-lived in nature. With its move back above $20 per share, the market has now priced in a possible growth re-acceleration as a near-certainty.For the stock to keep moving higher, or at the very least avoid moving lower, Nio needs to both hit its own Q3 deliveries projection, plus hit Q4 numbers in line with the sell side’s expectations. Hitting its Q3 target may be attainable. Its monthly delivery numbers since June have come in above 10,000. Q4, though, may be a taller order. In order to meet Edison Yu’s 2022 estimate, Nio needs to deliver 57,000 vehicles between October and December. That’s nearly double projected Q3 deliveries. With increased production, new models, and Chinese government incentives, this may seem like a cinch. However, other factors, like China’s economic slowdown, could somewhat counter these positives. In turn, causing delivery numbers for the months ahead to fall short of expectations. Even if it’s a near miss, it may cause the stock to give back its recent gains. The Verdict on NIO StockNio stock earns a D rating in my Portfolio Grader. Beyond pulling back in the short term, shares could also keep performing poorly in the coming years. Long-term bulls believe high growth will continue. Even as growth in its home market returns, they are confident international expansion will keep it in high-growth mode. But only time will tell whether its first big expansion overseas (in Europe) proves successful. It may face greater competition in the China market. In Europe, it faces not just market leader Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), but competition from incumbent European luxury brands as well.Failure in Europe may result in it scrapping its North American expansion plans. Without global expansion, it will be difficult for Nio to sustain, much less grow, its current valuation.Given the downside risk of it failing to deliver in the coming quarter, you may not want to chase the recent NIO stock rally.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"NIO":0.9,"09866":0.9,"NIO.SI":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1749,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9936931619,"gmtCreate":1662689655331,"gmtModify":1676537119413,"author":{"id":"3579259780567897","authorId":"3579259780567897","name":"dorcaschee","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/00b74fb2ca30b2e9b3040a2f1f047bd6","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579259780567897","idStr":"3579259780567897"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Crwd","listText":"Crwd","text":"Crwd","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9936931619","repostId":"2265894852","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2265894852","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1662675844,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2265894852?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-09-09 06:24","market":"us","language":"en","title":"4 Next-Generation Tech Stocks Billionaires Can't Stop Buying","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2265894852","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Wall Street's most successful money managers have used the bear market decline to pile into cutting-edge stocks.","content":"
\n
There's no beating about the bush: It's been a trying year for investors. The combination of historically high inflation, a weakening U.S. economy, and heightened geopolitical tensions (e.g., Ukraine war), pushed both the broad-based S&P 500 and technology-centric Nasdaq Composite firmly into a bear market. However, you wouldn't know the stock market is suffering through one of its worst years in decades by the actions of Wall Street's most-successful investors. Instead of retreating to the sideline, billionaire money managers have been actively buying stocks as the market dips. In particular, billionaires have really taken a liking to tech stocks focused on forward-looking innovation. What follows are four next-generation tech stocks billionaires simply can't stop buying.Image source: Getty Images.Upstart HoldingsThe first innovative powerhouse that at least one billionaire money manager can't stop purchasing is cloud-based lending platform Upstart Holdings. During the second quarter, billionaire Philippe Laffont of Coatue Management acquired roughly 2.36 million shares. What puts Upstart on the leading edge of its industry is its use of artificial intelligence (AI) to vet loan applications. Rather than rely on the traditional (and slow) loan-vetting process, Upstart leans on predictive technologies and previously vetted loan data to approve and fully automate nearly three-quarters of all loans its processes. This saves the six dozen financial institutions Upstart has partnered with time and money. However, what stands out even more about Upstart is the broader pool of applicants being approved. The typical loan applicant to gain approval with Upstart has a lower average credit score than the those approved with the traditional vetting process. Yet, delinquency rates between Upstart's AI-based process and the traditional vetting process have been similar. The implication here is that Upstart can expand the potential pool of borrowers for banks and credit unions without adversely impacting their credit-risk profile.Laffont is likely also encouraged by Upstart's push into new verticals. Whereas it's spent years processing personal loan applications, it's begun handling auto loan and small business loan originations. On a combined basis, auto and small business loans are more than 10X the market size of personal loan originations.SnowflakeThe second next-generation tech stock billionaires can't seem to get enough of is cloud data-warehousing company Snowflake. The June-ended quarter saw billionaire Jim Simons of Renaissance Technologies add more than 1.25 million shares to his fund's existing position (which now stands at more than 2 million shares). The answer to \"Why Snowflake?\" can be explained by the company's unique operating model. For instance, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses are shifting data into the cloud at an accelerated rate. However, sharing that data across competing cloud infrastructure platforms can be challenging. Snowflake's platform resolves this by building its infrastructure atop the leading cloud-service providers. In other words, Snowflake clients can seamlessly share and move data with ease. What's more, Snowflake has shunned the extremely common practice among cloud providers of pushing subscriptions. Instead, Snowflake offers something of a pay-as-you-go service that charges based on the amount of data stored and Snowflake Compute Credits used. This provides more cost transparency for the company's clients than a one-size-fits-all subscription package.Arguably the biggest obstacle for Snowflake is the company's own valuation. Even after a significant share price haircut, the company is valued at 27 times Wall Street's projected sales of roughly $2 billion in fiscal 2023. But if Snowflake can make good on its march to $10 billion in net sales by fiscal 2029 (calendar year 2028), billionaires like Simons may be glad they paid a premium to hold a stake in Snowflake.Image source: Getty Images.Palantir TechnologiesThe third cutting-edge tech stock billionaires can't stop buying is data mining company Palantir Technologies. During the second quarter, billionaire Israel Englander's Millennium Management bought nearly 1.9 million shares of Palantir stock. To boot, Simons' Renaissance Technologies more than doubled its stake by purchasing close to 15.69 million shares.Billionaires love Palantir for the simple reason that its technology at scale hasn't been duplicated by any other company. Put in another context, Palantir has no direct competitors that can replace the services it's offering to federal governments and predominantly large-scale businesses. The company's Gotham operating system is an AI-driven platform designed to help federal governments gather data, plan missions, accelerate decision-making. Large contract wins from the U.S. government tied to Gotham explain why Palantir has sustained a 30% or greater sales growth rate for the past couple of years. However, Gotham has a limited ceiling. That's because Palantir's management won't extend the Gotham operating system to certain governments, such as China. Over the long run, the company's Foundry software is its golden ticket to sustained double-digit growth. Foundry helps businesses streamline their operations by making sense of big data. In the June-ended quarter, Palantir's commercial customer count more than tripled to 119 from the year-ago quarter. In short, Foundry is in the very early innings of its growth phase.CrowdStrike HoldingsThe fourth and final next-generation tech stock billionaires can't stop buying is cybersecurity giant CrowdStrike Holdings. Billionaire Steve Cohen of Point72 Asset Management purchased over 819,000 shares of CrowdStrike during the second quarter, which ultimately boosted Point72's stake to 955,234 shares. What makes CrowdStrike tick is the company's AI-powered Falcon security platform. Falcon oversees in the neighborhood of 1 trillion events on a daily basis, which allows the platform to become more adept at recognizing and responding to potential end-user threats. While CrowdStrike doesn't offer the cheapest cybersecurity solutions, the fact that its gross retention rate is hovering around 98% clearly implies that Falcon is effective.Something else to consider about CrowdStrike, and the cybersecurity industry as a whole, is that cybersecurity has evolved into a basic necessity service. No matter how poorly the stock market or U.S. economy perform, bad actors don't take a day off from trying to steal enterprise or customer data. This creates a base level of demand for a company like CrowdStrike. But the best thing of all about CrowdStrike might just be its ability to encourage its existing clients to spend more. In a span of five years, the percentage of customers with four or more cloud-module subscriptions catapulted from 9% to more than 70%. Having existing customers purchase additional services is CrowdStrike's golden ticket to subscription gross margins of around 80%.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"CRWD":0.9,"PLTR":0.9,"SNOW":0.9,"UPST":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2305,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9997632767,"gmtCreate":1661793843661,"gmtModify":1676536579478,"author":{"id":"3579259780567897","authorId":"3579259780567897","name":"dorcaschee","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/00b74fb2ca30b2e9b3040a2f1f047bd6","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579259780567897","idStr":"3579259780567897"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice sharing ","listText":"Nice sharing ","text":"Nice sharing","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9997632767","repostId":"2262162956","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1373,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9991657786,"gmtCreate":1660831803747,"gmtModify":1676536407194,"author":{"id":"3579259780567897","authorId":"3579259780567897","name":"dorcaschee","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/00b74fb2ca30b2e9b3040a2f1f047bd6","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579259780567897","idStr":"3579259780567897"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9991657786","repostId":"1127322828","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1127322828","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1660814587,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1127322828?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-18 17:23","market":"us","language":"en","title":"After 2,240% Run, Tesla Visionary Leaves UK Fund Bleeding Money","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1127322828","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"For years, he rode the likes of Amazon.com Inc. and Tesla Inc. to the moon, earning a reputation as ","content":"
\n
For years, he rode the likes of Amazon.com Inc. and Tesla Inc. to the moon, earning a reputation as the techno-visionary oracle of Edinburgh. Now, James Anderson, bull-market hero, has left behind a precarious legacy. It’s been three months since Anderson, 63, retired from Baillie Gifford, the century-old Scottish money manager he transformed into anunlikely power-investorin global technology.Awkward timing, to say the least. Before Cathie Wood and Ark Invest, before crypto and “stonks,” Anderson began transforming Baillie Gifford’s prosaically namedScottish Mortgage Investment Trust— founded in 1909 to finance rubber plantationsand later Baillie Gifford’s flagship product — into one of the world’s top performing funds of its kind for a decade.Baillie Gifford offices in EdinburghPhotographer: Robert Ormerod/BloombergBut the tech stock meltdown has left the firm bleeding assets this year, losing a staggering 100 billion pounds ($122 billion) by the end of June. What was already a tall task for the next generation of the firm’s stock-pickers — convincing investors they can follow in Anderson's footsteps — has added a new hurdle: making the case that they should.Therecent market rallywill have helped, but changing course doesn’t appear to be an option. More than a dozen former and current employees and clients, most of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity in recent weeks, depict a firm that fell under the spell of Anderson’s success. A company partner who held no formal management position for years ended up driving Baillie Gifford’s entire approach to markets. What Anderson has left behind appears emblematic not only of this year’s market downturnbut also of the excesses that inflated a pandemic bubble in just about everything. Portfolio managers have been deployed to try to calm angsty clients. The uneasy mood was evident in mid-June as Scottish Mortgage investors gathered in London to hear what Baillie Gifford had to say about the drastic reversal of fortune. The crowd sat solemnly beneath dim chandeliers in a rented ballroom as Anderson’s successors, Tom Slater andLaurence Burns, called for patience, confident picks would pay off in the long run — that is, in 10 or even 20 years.Baillie Gifford famously piled into Amazon, Tesla and others that would soon catch fire in the bull market.Photographer: Rachel Jessen/BloombergSome attendees wondered out loud if Slater and Burns could deliver by following their old boss’s playbook. One asked if it would take 20 more years to figure out if Anderson really was a genius stock-picker or merely someone who lucked out in a bull market.“We are not sitting, looking into a crystal ball trying to predict what’s going to happen,” Slater said. “Wealth doesn’t come from predicting stuff but from a small number of exceptional companies.”It’s been quite a comedown. From its Edinburgh headquarters 3,200 miles from Wall Street, Baillie Gifford emerged in the 2000s and 2010s as one of theworld’s top stock-pickers,marketing the Anderson mystique and attracting ordinary investors and major pension funds across the US and Britain.Anderson set aside conventional investment metrics and staked his clients’ money on a relatively small number of risky, high-growth stocks. With a go-big-or-go-home ethos, he pressed portfolio managers to focus on sweeping, global themes, rather than investing geographically. And so, Baillie Gifford famously piled into Amazon, Tesla and others that would soon catch fire in the bull market. For years, the only investor who owned more of Tesla was Elon Musk. (Douglas Brodie,a partner and portfolio manager for another Baillie Gifford team, initially drove the Tesla investment in the early 2010s, but Anderson got most of the credit — and themedia attention). The results were extraordinary. From 2005 to its peak last year, Scottish Mortgage returned 2,240%.But what goes up usually comes down — in this case, down hard. With high-orbit tech stocks hurtling back to earth, Scottish Mortgage has plummeted 32% this year as of Aug. 16, its assets dropping to 14 billion pounds. All Baillie Gifford funds tracked by Bloomberg have fallen from 1% to 40% this year. Overall assets under management stood at 231 billion poundsat the end of June, versus 336 billion pounds at the start of the year. From Menlo Park to Shenzhen, Big Tech to startups, a pullback has followed a decade of giddy exuberance. SoftBank Group Corp.reporteda record 3.16 trillion yen ($23.4 billion) net loss on Aug. 8 after its Vision Fund, the world’s largest technology fund, got hammered.Given the shifting landscape, the question is when, or maybe whether, Baillie Gifford can regain its footing and help reinforce the business of stock picking that’s been undermined in recent years by the popularity of cheaper, index-tracking funds.James Anderson at the Allen & Co. Media and Technology Conference in Sun Valley, Idaho in 2019.Photographer: Patrick T. Fallon/BloombergIndeed, other big name investors came unstuck after stellar returns. Bill Miller, the manager whose unprecedented record of beating the Standards & Poor’s 500 Index made him aninvesting legend, couldn’t relive his past glories after a sharp turn in his fortunes.More dramatic was Neil Woodford’sfall from grace in the UK. The star money manager mesmerized investors for years with his performance. But following a poor run, clients startedpulling their cash, leading to the suspension of his flagship fund in 2019.Baillie Gifford is far more than one fund and has other strategies that don’t pursue the kind of returns that made Anderson a magnet for retail clients, who would flock to hear him speak at investor forums. But, over the time, the firm tilted toward his investing philosophy.Anderson, now chairman of Swedish investment companyKinnevik AB, waves off his influence. In an email, he dismissed the idea that his bull-market success and celebrity status came to define Baillie Gifford.“The influence was mostly because the high growth worked so well for a prolonged period and therefore — as is the way in finance — it attracted more attention and even imitation,” Anderson said of his sway over Baillie Gifford. “Maybe this always bothered me more than people realized.”In addition to Amazon and Tesla, big-name scores included Covid-19 vaccine maker Moderna Inc.Photographer: Guillaume Souvant/AFP/Getty ImagesBut during a tenure spanning four decades, he shook off the firm’s staid reputation and fundamentally changed its DNA. At a time when low-cost index funds were upending the investment business, he pushed the partnership in the opposite direction: He challenged portfolio managers to set aside indexes and instead find companies that would solve big problems. In addition to Amazon and Tesla, big-name scores included Covid-19 vaccine maker Moderna Inc.When markets were going their way, Anderson and his acolytes could steamroll most doubters. Unabashedly contrarian and sometimes quick-tempered, he sniffed at what he viewed as groupthink by bean-counting CFAs. Let others worry about quarterly results and P/E ratios. Anderson wanted to spot the super trends that would shape the future.People who questioned him or issued a negative report on one of his stock picks often found themselves on the losing side a heated argument, current and former employees say. Others learned to keep their mouths shut. To avoid office distractions, Anderson eventually stopped sharing his own research in Baillie Gifford’s library. Before long, Anderson and his crew stopped attending weekly investment meetings, dismissing the gatherings as a venue of low-brow short-termism. Baillie Gifford later made the confabs optional before binning them altogether.A scruffy, sometimes rumpled character with a professorial air — one former colleague recalls Anderson wearing an ink-stained shirt one day, another remembers his poorly knotted ties — Anderson came to be seen as the mad genius of Baillie Gifford. (In a telephone interview, Anderson conceded that he could be hot-tempered due to the stresses of the job.) His star rising, heenthralled everyday investors, scouted Silicon Valley and hung out with Jeff Bezos in Sun Valley.Insiders say that with Anderson gone there’s more room for flexibility, but Baillie Gifford is in so deep it might be hard to go back. Wholly owned by its roughly 50 partners, the firm has staked its future on the belief that it can spot the next big thing. Then, the thinking goes, it can do what Anderson did: Get in early — and hold on for the ride. Before July’s bounce, the ride has mostly gone in one direction: down. Baillie Gifford is a top-three holder of Moderna (down 22% year to Aug. 16); Shopify Inc. (down 68%); and Spotify Technology SA (down 41%). It’s also a major holder of Illumia Inc. (down 33%) and Peloton Interactive Inc. (down 58%), among others.Stock picks are only one problem. During the bull years, Anderson and his team also became go-to financiers for a range of tech startups. Flush with investor dollars, they seeded young businesses in hopes of reaping outsize returns once the companies went public.Unlisted companies accounted forroughly a thirdof Scottish Mortgage’s holdings at the end of June, according to company documents. The fund got in on the bull-market rush over the fledgling air-taxi business, picking up stakes inLilium NVand Joby Aviation Inc. It also bought into crypto financial-services company Blockchain.com and Northvolt AB, a Swedish battery developer. When or if many of those bets might pay off is anyone’s guess. One pick, biotech company Ginkgo Bioworks, went public last year, during the waning days of the craze over special purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs. Since then, the stock has fallen 53%.And while Anderson was the first to invest in private companies at Baillie Gifford, even more conservative investment trusts run by the firm have exposure to the asset class, albeit at much lower levels.Even Baillie Gifford insiders concede Anderson’s departure in April, telegraphedfor more than a year, came at a particularly fraught moment. The firm created a success story around Anderson and his investment philosophy and used that rosy narrative to market itself.James Budden, global head of marketing, acknowledged — with some limits — Anderson’s long-standing role in shaping Baillie Gifford. “He was a strong influence, but this took 20 years to play out,” said Budden, the only person Baillie Gifford made available to speak on the record. “Scottish Mortgage didn’t immediately become what it is today. Yes, he did define a lot of the investment thinking.”For better and worse, Anderson appears to have left a lasting mark. University graduates who join the firm’s training program no longer get schooled in financial statements as meticulously as they used to, people familiar with the matter said. People who’ve left recently say risk management could be improved. For years, the only investor who owned more of Tesla was Elon Musk.Photographer: Toru Hanai/BloombergBudden, the marketing chief, says trainees must still learn accounting but adds that success at Baillie Gifford takes vision, too. “We do have risk controls, though people think we don’t,” he said. “For us the biggest risk is finding the wrong companies and missing the big opportunities, but we also do proper risk analysis.”For now, Baillie Gifford seems hostage to the markets. Aninvestment teamcalled Global Alpha, createdby former senior partner Charles Plowden in 2005 as a counterweight to Anderson’s go-big philosophy, has weathered the storm better than Scottish Mortgage by investing in more, less volatile stocks.Global Alpha today manages 39 billion pounds, more than any other group in the firm. Yet, all the same, it still holds a crop of Anderson’s tech darlingslike Moderna and Tesla. The firm says any similarities between portfolios are unintentional and that each team does its own research. All the same, the 170-person client services team has been reemphasizingthe investment philosophy Anderson helped to build. Their line: This, too, shall pass — and Baillie Gifford will go on to greater heights as its bets pay off over coming decades. In webinars, letters and phone calls, the team has urged investors not to panic. The partnership keeps looking ahead. It plans to hire more people and move to a new glass-paneled, seven-story headquarters being built in a new development in Edinburgh’s West End. At a recent company-wide meeting, two senior partners said Baillie Gifford would stick to its guns. It was, they said, business as usual.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TSLA":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2296,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9906461414,"gmtCreate":1659579002340,"gmtModify":1705981845997,"author":{"id":"3579259780567897","authorId":"3579259780567897","name":"dorcaschee","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/00b74fb2ca30b2e9b3040a2f1f047bd6","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579259780567897","idStr":"3579259780567897"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9906461414","repostId":"1125114842","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1125114842","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1659578413,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1125114842?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-04 10:00","market":"us","language":"en","title":"VOO: 3 Reasons To Avoid This Fund Right Now","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1125114842","media":"Seeking Alpha","summary":"SummaryThe Vanguard ETF indexed to the S&P 500 faces a number of current and long-standing issues th","content":"

Summary

The Vanguard ETF indexed to the S&P 500 faces a number of current and long-standing issues that should result in this fund underperforming for some time.

Inflation and a rising dollar should limit most earnings growth of the main large-cap companies making up this index fund.

The overall market is likely to remain range bound for some time as earnings growth flat line, so investors will likely be better off investing in specific stocks or sectors.

Evolution is usually required for survival. Jobless claims have risen to 8-month highs, the number of small businesses defaulting on leases have reached alarming levels with nearly 35% of small businesses having issues paying their rent. Growth estimates for leading emerging market economies such as India continue to fall as well. The dollar has risen well over 10% against most major currencies just since early May.

With inflation, a slowing economy, and falling earnings expectations likely to continue for some time, the market is more than likely to remain range-bound for an extended period of time in this uncertain environment. With VOO yielding just 1.49%, most investors seeking income or capital gains are likely to be disappointed with the returns this fund can offer over the next year.

Given the Uncertain times and higher than average volatility levels that should be in the market for some time, investors will likely get better returns using more creative strategies that target funds that can thrive even if the market remains range bound. Funds that use a covered call strategy, which is selling calls against the underlying securities the funds hold, are capable of generating significant income even in a market that flatlines. The Amplify CWP Enhanced Dividend Income ETF (DIVO), The Global X S&P 500 Covered Call Exchange Traded Fund (XYLD), and the Global X Russell 2000 Covered Call Fund (RYLD), have all consistently returned at least 9% a year, and each fund offer monthly payouts as well. Adopting to an environment that a person or investors has become used to usually isn't overly challenging, but learning how to thrive when circumstances change is often more difficult. The market isn't going straight up anymore. Inflation, rising rates, flatling earnings, and a rising dollar, all have resulted in funds indexed to the S&P 500 (SPY) such as the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (NYSEARCA:VOO) selling off hard over the first six months of this year.VOOdata by YChartsVOO is an ETF that is indexed to the S&P 500 which holds the following sectors. The fund allocates assets 24.11% to technology, 15.14% to health care, 12.84% to the financials, 10.24% to consumer cyclicals, 8.82% to the communication sector, 8.26% to industrials, 7.36% to consumer defensives, 4.33% to the energy sector, 3.09% to utilities, 2.9% to the real estate sector, and 2.27% to basic materials. The fund has good expense ratio of .03% and $832.52 billion in assets under management. The fund's 5 biggest holdings are Amazon (AMZN), Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOGL), Apple (AAPL), and Tesla (TSLA).I think this fund should be sold for 3 main reasons; Falling earnings, slowing growth, and a rising dollar. All issues that should remain challenges for most large cap companies through the next year. With inflation levels still at near record highs and the dollar rising fast against most major currencies over the last several months, earnings expectations for the S&P 500 and most major indexes have fallen as well. S&P 500 earnings have been well below 5-year averages so far with most reports nearly 5% below 4-year average earnings reports when it comes to beating analyst expectations.Earni gs tBle(An Earnings Table (FactSet))Even though the Fed recently suggested the future interest rate raises may be slowed as inflation expectations have eased, inflation levels remain near 40-year highs. There are also a number of signs the US economy is at least going to enter a period of an extended slowdown. Jobless claims have risen to 8-month highs, the number of small businesses defaulting on leases have reached alarming levels with nearly 35% of small businesses having issues paying their rent. Growth estimates for leading emerging market economies such as India continue to fall as well. Consensus estimates for growth in India have already fallen by nearly 2% since the beginning of the year primarily because of inflation and Covid related issues. The slowing economy and consistently high levels of inflation the companies continue to face have largely resulted in earnings expectation flatlining over the last 6 months.Inflation and slower expectations for growth in the US and abroad aren't the only issues most large-cap companies that comprise funds such as VOO are facing. The rising dollar is also hurting large-cap companies significantly.UUPdata by YChartsThe dollar has risen significantly against most major currencies since September of 2021.About 37% of S&P 500 earnings come from outside of the United States, so a 10% rise in the dollar usually equates to a near 4% drop in earnings expectations. The dollar has risen well over 10% against most major currencies just since early May.With inflation, a slowing economy, and falling earnings expectations likely to continue for some time, the market is more than likely to remain range-bound for an extended period of time in this uncertain environment. With VOO yielding just 1.49%, most investors seeking income or capital gains are likely to be disappointed with the returns this fund can offer over the next year.Given the Uncertain times and higher than average volatility levels that should be in the market for some time, investors will likely get better returns using more creative strategies that target funds that can thrive even if the market remains range bound. The news was reported via Chinese state television, which caused both Li Auto and XPeng to surge higher by 6% in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, Nio traded higher by 4% in Singapore.Chinese EV stocks have had a volatile year due to Covid-19 lockdowns in several key cities. These lockdowns have further exacerbated supply chain challenges. The fear of a resurgence of coronavirus cases and lockdowns is still present, but the country recently reported its lowest number of new cases since February. Additionally, none of China’s top 50 cities by economic size currently have widespread restrictions in place. In April, zero new cars were sold in Shanghai due to the lockdowns. With that in mind, let’s get into the details of the tax exemptions. Why Are Chinese EV Stocks NIO, LI, XPEV Up Today? The Chinese government is reportedly considering extending tax exemptions by 200 billion yuan, or roughly $30 billion. This extension would increase EV demand and benefit the used-car market as well. In 2009, the government enacted subsidies to help stimulate the EV market. These subsidies will phase out by 2023. On top of that, a 10% EV purchase tax exemption is set to expire by the end of the year.In May, Chinese passenger vehicle sales were down 17% year-over-year (YOY). In April, passenger vehicle sales were down 36% YOY. This represented the largest drop in two years. The lockdowns have hurt Chinese vehicle sales significantly, and now it appears as if the government is stepping in to bolster sales.China also announced that it would halve the purchase tax on low-emission vehicles. These vehicles must have been sold between June and December of last year, have no more than nine seats and carry a price tag of $45,000 or less. The country estimated that these tax reductions would total 60 billion yuan, or about $9 billion.Several individual Chinese car companies are also providing customers with incentives to help increase sales. These include insurance subsidies, attractive financing rates and an extension of loan payment deadlines.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"NIO":0.9,"LI":0.9,"XPEV":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1506,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9057465070,"gmtCreate":1655549733790,"gmtModify":1676535660975,"author":{"id":"3579259780567897","authorId":"3579259780567897","name":"dorcaschee","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/00b74fb2ca30b2e9b3040a2f1f047bd6","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3579259780567897","idStr":"3579259780567897"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice","listText":"Nice","text":"Nice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9057465070","repostId":"1145834940","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1145834940","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1655475881,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1145834940?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-06-17 22:24","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Apple Continues To Expand Into An Area Few Initially Expected","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1145834940","media":"Seeking Alpha","summary":"SummaryIn streaming, content is king and the latest arms race to secure that content is coming from ","content":"

Summary

In streaming, content is king and the latest arms race to secure that content is coming from the world of sports where Apple just made another big move this week.

The company has inked a new 10-year deal with Major League Soccer (MLS) that would serve as a one-stop shop for fans starting in 2023.

Paired with its earlier baseball deal, Apple continues to expand into a new space for them, but one where consumers have considerable interest.

Apple may also not be done shopping in this space as there are multiple rumors that the company is close to acquiring NFL’s Sunday Ticket package of games.

Apple’s streaming strategy has always been a fluid one, but part of its success is because it’s open to change, which is needed to keep up with the pack.

When you think of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) it's safe to say the word "sports" doesn't necessarily come to mind.

Given Apple's a tech company, that would make sense but also given Apple's penchant for innovation, it also shouldn't be a real shock either.

This week, Apple made another big deal for its streaming platform and at the same time stands ready to do what it does best … drag others into the future whether they are ready or not.

First, as always, some background.

We know in streaming that content is king, and the latest arms race to secure that content is coming from the world of sports. A number of the streamers have already dived into this space, and it is expected to remain a lucrative field for some time to come.

Apple is no exception. While it entered the fray late, in typical Apple fashion it made its presence felt.

A few months ago, it signed a deal with MLB for a new Friday Night baseball double-header packages that brought games exclusively to Apple TV+. It was presumed to be the first step in a larger play, and this week those presumptions were proven correct.

Apple has swooped in and signed the rights to Major League Soccer (MLS) in a new 10-year deal slated to kick off early next year. The package includes ALL the MLS games and promises to be a one-stop-shop for soccer fans.

There's a lot to unpack there because it's big news on a variety of levels.

At the basic level, it adds soccer to the Apple TV family of content, which paired with baseball continues to see it expand into a market where consumers have interest. With an Apple TV+ subscription bundled into the deal, it also helps (once-again) juice its subscriber count.

And then there is the larger level, that as usual with Apple, will have far-reaching effects.

The MLS deal is not your typical content play. It is not just about getting the games, it's about getting all the games and building what amounts to a new service specifically designed for Major League Soccer - not unlike what MLB, NHL and NBA have for their games. Keep in mind, this would also be a gated-off premium area in the Apple TV app that will be separate from the other Apple TV+ offerings.

Again innovation.

Getting all the games is no small feat as currently the other major sports, which offer similar all-in-one packages through cable/streaming, have blackout restrictions in place. In other words, you can't watch your home market team anywhere but through whatever channel has the broadcast rights in your area.

This new deal bypasses those blackouts.

It's essentially a roadmap for other leagues to follow and eventually ditch the arcane restrictions that have hampered sports for years. A number of the streamers have already dived into this space, and it is expected to remain a lucrative field for some time to come.Apple is no exception. While it entered the fray late, in typical Apple fashion it made its presence felt.A few months ago, it signed a deal with MLB for a new Friday Night baseball double-header packages that brought games exclusively to Apple TV+. It was presumed to be the first step in a larger play, and this week those presumptions were proven correct.Apple has swooped in and signed the rights to Major League Soccer (MLS) in a new 10-year deal slated to kick off early next year. Keep in mind, this would also be a gated-off premium area in the Apple TV app that will be separate from the other Apple TV+ offerings.Again innovation.Getting all the games is no small feat as currently the other major sports, which offer similar all-in-one packages through cable/streaming, have blackout restrictions in place. In other words, you can't watch your home market team anywhere but through whatever channel has the broadcast rights in your area. This new deal bypasses those blackouts. It's essentially a roadmap for other leagues to follow and eventually ditch the arcane restrictions that have hampered sports for years. Originally, the rules were put in place to help protect key rights owners, but a lot of things have evolved since that point. This new model makes for a strong package that if you are a fan of MLS, you'll likely consider buying.Of course, we don't yet know what the cost will be, but Apple did make a point to mention that select (and meaningful) games would also be available for free to Apple TV+ subscribers, which also makes sense. In either case, it is very clear Apple believes in the popularity of soccer and is looking to associate itself with it for the foreseeable future. But the company isn't likely done there, and as one analyst put it, \"this may just be an appetizer\" for Apple. It's a sentiment seemingly echoed by Wedbush Securities Managing Director Dan Ives who went a little more in-depth in an interview with Yahoo! saying \"there's been a clear DNA change within Apple the last 18 months about live sports content.\"Backing up that assumption is the belief that Apple either has made a deal or is close to making a deal with the NFL to take over its Sunday Ticket package of games from DirecTV, also starting in 2023. The package is expected to move to a streamer, and Apple TV would be a natural fit.If the rumor is true, Sunday Ticket would likely follow this same approach where it would be a pay-walled area separate from Apple TV+ content but have some type of free options. It would also be a huge win for Apple and further align them to compete in this streaming space. Having three of today's top leagues as partners providing some level of exclusive content and options through your pipeline will continue to help the platform stand out and define itself in a crowded market. As CNBC put it, these types of deals\"show how strong businesses can grow even in tough times.\"Apple's streaming path has long been a mystery that has baffled the industry and its experts. It is known for not spending big, instead, it just finds workarounds when the price tag gets too high or it finds new ways to make the numbers work in their favor. This is Apple buying in fully to the concept. And that should worry others in the space.Remember when Apple decided to do away with the headphone jack and consumers basically had to go along with it if they wanted an iPhone.
