While one of them could be a risky investment, both have credible paths to making shareholders a richer.1. Novo NordiskNovo Nordisk is a Danish pharma company that's been in the news lately, thanks to its drug semaglutide. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the drug in the U.S. for treating obesity, which sells under the trade name Wegovy. Additionally, semaglutide is also approved to treat type 2 diabetes and sold under the trade names Ozempic, an injectable, and Rybelsus, a pill.Currently, the company's investigating semaglutide for other indications as well, like Alzheimer's disease, in late-stage clinical trials. And if the fact that its obesity care segment grew by 84% in 2022 means anything at all, it's that this company has a lot of growth on the way.Over the last 10 years, Novo Nordisk grew its annual diluted earnings per share (EPS) at an average of 10.1% per year, reaching $3.59. Now, thanks largely to its anticipated semaglutide earnings, Wall Street analysts predict that, on average, its long-term EPS growth rate will be 20.7% annually. At that pace, its 2022 net income of $7.8 billion will expand to around $26.7 billion by 2030. And if its price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio remains at 44.2, its market cap could surpass $1.1 trillion -- more than triple its current value of $354 billion.So, in principle, Novo Nordisk stock could indeed triple over the next 6.5 years. But that doesn't mean you should bet the bank on it happening. Even with a portfolio of great products, growing earnings by roughly 20% per year for more than half a decade is quite difficult for a large and established business.Plus, there's always the chance that market phenomena will cause its P/E ratio to compress, meaning it would take a significantly faster pace of net income growth to still triple in value relative to today. Nonetheless, this stock isn't very risky thanks to its in-demand medicines and the likely output of its development pipeline. So don't be too afraid to buy a few shares, as a purchase will probably pay off over the coming years.2. SNDLSNDL is a Canadian cannabis and liquor business that doesn't exactly have a hit drug like semaglutide to sell. Instead, SNDL's path to tripling by 2030 involves it surviving a decidedly toxic cocktail of market and economic factors that currently appear to be harming its competitors to the point that they will be relatively easy to buy out.In a nutshell, it's a bad time to be a cannabis company. After experiencing a brutal collapse from the frothy frenzy of 2021, the market presently has shunned cannabis stocks. Most public businesses in the industry are unprofitable, and the piecemeal nature of marijuana legalization in the U.S. remains a major stumbling block.More importantly, the North American marijuana markets are being punished by companies lowering cannabis prices because of excess weed floating around compared to the level of demand. There are too many goods chasing too few consumers.But for a business like SNDL, these conditions make for the perfect setup. It currently has CA$207 million in unrestricted cash on hand and no debt. Due to significant impairments from its last set of acquisitions, it isn't profitable; however, it made CA$28.6 million in cash from operations in the fourth quarter, and its cash balance only dropped by CA$6.7 million in 2022.At the same time, as a result of some of its prior investments and lending to other U.S. marijuana companies, it could gain a majority owner of one or two of the multi-state operators (MSOs) there. That could power its top line to surpass CA$1 billion before the end of 2023, up from 2022's sum of CA$712.2 million.To triple, SNDL's market cap would need to reach approximately 1.2 billion U.S. dollars, up from its market cap near $400 million today. But right now, its price-to-sales (P/S) ratio is only 0.6, far lower than most of its competitors, not to mention the market's average P/S of 2.4. Let's assume it succeeds with its plans to gain control of a U.S. MSO or two so that by the end of 2023, it will reach CA$1 billion in sales, which is actually a bit lower than analysts' estimates.If it can then simply grow its annual revenue by a measly 8.5% annually over the six years following 2023, it'll easily triple to reach a market cap of $1.2 billion, provided its P/S expands a bit to reach a still-super-low value of 1.0. But if its valuation corrects to a level merely in the ballpark of the market's average, it could triple while growing even slower -- and with acquisition opportunities abounding, growing slower is unlikely. Still, its shares could also lose a lot of value between now and 2030, thanks to the difficult market conditions. The European markets were down and the U.S. bourses were mixed and the Asian markets figure to split the difference.</p><p>The STI finished slightly lower on Wednesday following losses from the property stocks and financial shares.</p><p>For the day, the index eased 2.65 points or 0.08 percent to finish at 3,293.91 after trading between 3,281.32 and 3,299.33.</p><p>Among the actives, Ascendas REIT rose 0.35 percent, while CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust sank 0.97 percent, CapitaLand Investment advanced 0.78 percent, City Developments slumped 0.68 percent, DBS Group lost 0.64 percent, Emperador declined 0.98 percent, Genting Singapore shed 0.87 percent, Hongkong Land slid 0.46 percent, Keppel Corp collected 0.31 percent, Mapletree Pan Asia Commercial Trust and UOL Group both added 0.56 percent, Mapletree Logistics Trust rallied 2.30 percent, Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation eased 0.16 percent, SATS tumbled 1.52 percent, Singapore Technologies Engineering was down 0.28 percent, SingTel climbed 1.22 percent, Thai Beverage improved 0.77 percent, United Overseas Bank fell 0.48 percent, Wilmar International gained 0.49 percent, Yangzijiang Financial jumped 1.32 percent and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, Comfort DelGro, Mapletree Industrial Trust, SembCorp Industries and DFI Retail were unchanged.</p><p>The lead from Wall Street is murky as the major averages opened higher on Wednesday, but the Dow and S&amp;P 500 quickly fell into the red while the NASDAQ stayed positive throughout the day.</p><p>The Dow stumbled 228.96 points or 0.68 percent to finish at 33,301.87, while the NASDAQ gained 55.19 points or 0.47 percent to close at 11,854.35 and the S&amp;P 500 fell 15.64 points or 0.38 percent to end at 4,055.99.</p><p>The mixed performance on Wall Street came as traders weighed upbeat tech earnings against renewed concerns about turmoil in the banking sector.</p><p>The rebound by the NASDAQ reflected a positive reaction to earnings news from Microsoft (MSFT) and Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL), among others.</p><p>On the other hand, shares of First Republic (FRC) extended the steep drop seen in the previous session, which came after the regional bank reported a loss of more than $100 billion in deposits in the first quarter, renewing concerns about turmoil in the banking sector.</p><p>In economic news, the Commerce Department said new orders for U.S. manufactured durable goods surged much more than expected in March amid a substantial rebound in orders for transportation equipment.</p><p>Crude oil futures ended sharply lower Wednesday as worries about the outlook for energy demand dragged down oil prices. Unfortunately, not all 30 stocks participated in the modest move higher. A few stocks actually dropped more than 10% in the first three months of the year. Let's take a closer look at the three worst-performing stocks in the Dow Jones Industrials through the end of March (in reverse order of performance) to see if any of them are worth buying.Image source: Getty Images.3. Honeywell (down 11.8%)Honeywell, like other industrial companies, has struggled on both sides of the income statement, facing weakening demand and rising costs due to inflation.As a result, the stock has drifted lower over the course of the first quarter, missing out on the broader recovery in the stock market.Other than its fourth-quarter earnings report, the main news out on the company so far this year is that current president and chief operating officer Vimal Kapur will succeed Darius Adamczyk on June 1.Honeywell's top-line growth in the fourth quarter was solid with organic sales, which exclude currency exchange, up 10%, and reported revenue rose 6% to $9.19 billion, slightly below the consensus at $9.25 billion. On the bottom line, Honeywell's adjusted earnings per share (EPS) improved, up from $2.09 to $2.52, but that was in line with analyst estimates.Honeywell expects just modest growth in 2023 calling for 2% to 5% organic sales growth to $36 billion to $37 billion, and adjusted EPS growth of flat to 5%, reaching $8.80 to $9.20.Based on that forecast, the stock trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 21, and it could be vulnerable to a recession as it sells big-ticket times like smart building management systems and aircraft engines.Given that, investors may be able to find better value elsewhere.2. Johnson & Johnson (down 13.1%)It's hard to find a safer stock than Johnson & Johnson. The company operates in healthcare, a mostly recession-proof industry, and it's diversified across three business segments: consumer goods (like Tylenol), medical devices, and pharmaceuticals, though it will spin off its consumer goods division.The healthcare giant is also only one of two U.S. companies, along with Microsoft, to enjoy a AAA credit rating from S&P Global Ratings, and it's a Dividend King, having raised its quarterly payout every year for more than 50 years.However, those qualities haven't protected J&J this year as the stock is down 13% through the first quarter, and like Honeywell, the stock steadily declined over most of the quarter. The healthcare conglomerate received some bad news on the legal front as an appeals court rejected the company's attempt to move roughly 40,000 lawsuits over its talc-based baby powder causing cancer to a bankruptcy court. That will likely raise the end cost to J&J, which some analysts have estimated to come to $10 billion.The company also discontinued its RSV adult vaccine, a disappointment for investors.In its January earnings report, the company called for modest EPS growth in 2023 at 3% to 5%, indicating 2023 could be a challenging year for the stock.1. 3M (down 14.3%)Like Johnson & Johnson, 3M has struggled this year in part because of legal troubles.The company is embroiled in multiple liability lawsuits including over faulty earplugs and \"forever chemicals,\" or PFAS, as the company recently said it would stop making PFAS. In fact, the recent ruling in the Johnson & Johnson case has negative implications for 3M's own litigation around its earplugs.3M's earnings report was also a disappointment as the company called for 2023 earnings per share of $8.50 to $9, below the $9.88 it reported in 2022, and short of the Wall Street consensus at $10.22.
