Tariff war? What now? Rare earth maybe the key
Hate him, love him... Donald Trump is by far the most entertaining President in my living memory.
Did the tariff war really start? Or did it end before it can takeoff in full flight?
Now, I'm confused... True, stock markets all around the 🌎 crashed. It appears that US and China are the only countries in this world then (apart from Canada and Mexico of course since they have a headstart).
Remember, Donald Trump mentioned there's no exemption? Those words simply spiralled out of control... Exemption here... Wait a minute, exemption for that too. Perhaps...
Tariff war has really started... Before Donald Trump and US are ready for it! Strange if you ask me. China has prepared for years for Donald Trump's homecoming, given the prior experience in his first term. Why would Donald Trump be confident that this is not something he could pull off? He is in a weaker position than China to begin with. It may be true that China economy had emerged slower and weaker from COVID lockdown. It still has time to get ready for Trump 2. Just what manufacturing has US built up during this time? Nothing much...
Given the old used trick that China had pulled up time and again in past trade disputes between countries, it doesn't require much imagination for China to do the same. Not sure why Donald Trump or his advisors can't see that... Or maybe simply refuse to see that?
Rare earth, rare earth... How's that not in the agenda? How could anyone go into a trade "embargo" (that's what Trump is doing with 100-200% tariff on China) without knowing this? What is the bargaining chip? Rare earth minerals may not be rare... But processing challenges are... It has so far been difficult to perform the separation tasks and over 90% is done in China.
Does Donald Trump even know what it is? Did anyone ever tell him those minerals are critical for most modern days electronic gadgets? And what are these gadgets made of?? Drum 🥁 please... Electronic components such as semiconductors! Where are they used? Not just some iPads, iPhones, but all modern days defence weapons and systems, automobiles, even everyday electronics.
It's a joke, is it not? It may not sound like one... But it will soon be... But it's not going to be funny when it hits a President who acts on impulse... It's early days to this tariff war... But if you ask me, it's a one-sided war... Winner is clear... And it's not Donald Trump. What's he doing right now?
A bit late into the party 🎉 🥳. But I don't mind since it fuels the rare earth minerals related rally we see these days.
Finally, here are your winners!
Of the above, $JLMAG(06680)$ , $CRITICAL METALS CORPORATION(CRML)$ clearly have a long way to go in terms of rally.
$CRITICAL METALS CORPORATION(CRML)$ is an int eresting speculative position. It's based in Greenland. Yup, the same Greenland Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to take it by force or otherwise. US government has thrown money 💰 to support it. Even though its grade seems not as rich, the area is huge! So it holds lots of promise! I have bought an initial stake... and taking the recent fluctuations to add to my position.
$MP Materials Corp.(MP)$ is my all time favourite. I sold it off earlier but quickly get some back in when tariff strikes. It should continue to climb... a lot higher is the expectation since it is the only US rare earth minerals miner (not prospective, actually mining) and processor.
$AUSTRALIAN STRATEGIC MATERIA(ASM.AU)$ has been falling for a long time. I am still holding on to it... This tariff war has given me renew hope that I could make good profit on it. Having said that, it has moved too fast lately and might be in for a correction (overbought position).

- Ah_Meng·04-17TOPThe rare earth minerals company list is by no means exhaustive… there’s a lot more at various stages of development. ASX apparently holds the biggest basket for prospective miners… so there’s a need to take time to study and understand them. Many will end up not making it to the mining ⛏️ phase, so good to be choosy here…1Report
