Shernice’s Deep Dive on TMC & Seabed Mining + Stock Price Scoop!
Posted by Shernice · May 1, 2025 · Feeling Curious
Y’all, Shernice is back with the tea, and this time I’m diving DEEP into $The Metals Company(TMC)$ The Metals Company Inc. (that’s TMC on NASDAQ, baby) and their wild ride in seabed mining! We’re talking robots scooping minerals from the ocean floor, Trump’s big moves, and some crazy stock price action that’s got investors buzzing. Buckle up, fam, ‘cause this is a lot!
So, TMC is out here in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone (sounds like a sci-fi flick, right?) vacuuming up polymetallic nodules packed with nickel, cobalt, copper, and manganese. These are the goodies powering your EV batteries and solar panels. TMC’s got uncrewed vehicles sucking up nodules like an underwater Roomba, claiming it’s greener than tearing up mountains. But hold up—scientists are waving red flags about biodiversity loss and these nodules maybe producing “dark oxygen” (like, what?!). Over 30 countries, including France and Germany, want a moratorium on deep-sea mining ‘til we know more. Greenpeace is out here rallying, while TMC’s like, “Nah, our research says it’s cool.” The drama is REAL!
Now, let’s talk stock price vibes ‘cause TMC’s been on a WILD ride. As of today, Apr 30, 2025, TMC’s share price is $3.16 (closed at $3.14 yesterday, opened at $3.14 yesterday with a high of $3.175 and low of $3.14). This stock is a rollercoaster, y’all! Check this out:
Last Month (April 2025): Started at $1.67 on April 1, then BOOM—shot up to $3.48 by April 24 (that’s a 108% jump!). Dipped to $3.05, then hit $3.42 before settling at $3.16 today. Talk about volatility!
Last Year: A year ago, TMC was at $1.47 (May 2024). It’s up 115% since then, hitting a 52-week high of $3.80 and a low of $0.721. From that low, it’s soared 338%!
Why the Surge?: Trump’s policies are fueling this fire
Market Cap: Sitting at $914.7 million with no dividends or P/E ratio (they’re still in exploration mode, not profits). Analysts are mixed—some say Buy with targets up to $6.25, others call it a “Momentum Trap” ‘cause of the risks.
Now, let’s get to Trump’s role in this saga. On April 24, 2025, he dropped a bombshell executive order, “Unleashing America’s Offshore Critical Minerals”, pushing the U.S. to fast-track seabed mining permits. He’s sidestepping the International Seabed Authority (ISA), which has 169 countries shook, calling it a violation of international law. China, Russia, you name it—they’re NOT happy. Trump’s crew, including Elise Stefanik and Marco Rubio, says this is about national security to beat China at the critical minerals game. TMC’s CEO, Gerard Barron, is all in, testifying in Congress and applying for U.S. permits to start mining by 2026. They submitted apps for two exploration licenses and a recovery permit on April 29.
But here’s the spicy part: TMC’s got hurdles. They lost $81.9 million in 2024, and manganese (their main mineral) isn’t as pricey as cobalt or nickel. Plus, environmentalists are ready to sue, and the ISA’s throwing shade.
An 18% drop to $3.00 in late trading after a 44.7% spike on April 24—proof this stock’s a wild card. If TMC pulls this off, they’re sitting on $8-16 trillion in nodules, but if lawsuits or regulations hit, it’s a wrap.
TMC’s stock is a high-risk, high-reward bet. If you’re feeling bold, it’s a play on Trump’s mining push and EV demand, but don’t bet the farm! I’m fascinated by this clash—ocean tech vs. nature, U.S. vs. the world. Are we cool with mining the sea to power our cars, or should we save the fishies? Drop your thoughts below! Are you riding the TMC wave or staying clear? And who’s watching that stock price?
