Musk’s America Party: Reform or Risk? Exit or Double on Tesla?

On July 5, Elon Musk officially announced on social media platform X:

“Today, the founding of the ‘America Party’ gives you back your freedom.”

When asked how he views billionaire Elon Musk launching a new political party, U.S. President Donald Trump responded that Musk “can have some fun with it,” but called the move “ridiculous.”

Trump vs. Musk: A Final Fallout? What’s the Goal of the America Party?

During the 2024 presidential election, Musk donated nearly $300 million to support Trump’s campaign. After Trump won, Musk was appointed as the head of the newly formedDOGE and actively participated in efforts to cut federal spending and other political activities. At one point, he was even dubbed the “Shadow President” by foreign media. Musk was a near-constant presence in the Oval Office back then.

However, as Musk decided to shift focus back to his companies and gradually withdrew from the White House, their relationship cooled.
In late May, Musk publicly criticized Trump’s "Big and Beautiful" Act, expressing disappointment that it had increased—rather than reduced—the budget deficit and undermined the work previously done by DOGE.

What Does the America Party Stand For?

According to Musk’s response to a tweet by business partner Tyler Palmer, the America Party’s platform includes:

  • Reducing national debt, Responsible spending, Modernizing the military with AI and robotics, Accelerating AI development to gain a competitive edge, Reducing regulation across sectors, especially energy, Protecting free speech, Supporting pro-natalist (pro-birth) policies.

Wall Street Reacts: Tesla at Risk from Musk's Political Turn?

Wall Street began urgently assessing the risks of Musk’s political ambitions for Tesla.

James T. Fishback, CEO of investment firm Azoria, announced a delay in the listing of the Azoria Tesla Convexity ETF on the same day.

He urged the Tesla board to immediately convene a meeting to evaluate whether Musk’s political goals are compatible with his full-time role as CEO. Fishback stated:

“A political party not only fails to support Tesla’s mission—it actively undermines it.”

Dan Ives, senior Tesla analyst at Wedbush Securities, added:

“If Musk increasingly devotes energy to building a new political party in time for the midterms, the board at least needs to have a discussion about what’s best for Tesla.”

Can the America Party Succeed?

America’s electoral system poses structural barriers to third-party candidates.

In US political history, the most successful third-party candidate was Ross Perot in 1992, who received 18.9% of the popular vote—but still failed to win any electoral votes. In 2016, Libertarian Gary Johnson earned 3.27%, the party’s best result to date. In 2020, Green Party’s Jill Stein received about 1.1% of the vote.

Musk may have a more focused plan: initially targeting 2–3 Senate seats and 8–10 House districts, aiming to become a kingmaker in Congress through influence in key races.

A Quantus Insights poll, conducted from June 30 to July 2 and released on July 3, showed that 40% of voters said they would consider supporting Musk’s new party.

What Do You Think?

  • Can Musk's America Party succeed?

  • Is it still wise to hold Tesla stock now?

  • How long will Musk’s political risks impact Tesla?

  • Will Trump become increasingly hostile toward Tesla over the next year?

To be honest, I’ve become short-term bearish on $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ , mainly due to Elon Musk’s deepening involvement in politics. The launch of the America Party and the growing tension with Trump introduce a layer of unpredictability that markets hate. As a CEO, Musk’s attention is already split across multiple ventures—and now, political ambitions could stretch him even thinner.

That said, I still believe in Tesla’s long-term potential. The company remains at the forefront of EV innovation, battery tech, and AI-driven autonomous systems. Its lead in FSD, vertical integration, and global manufacturing footprint are hard to replicate. Political distractions aside, Tesla’s core team and engineering talent continue to push boundaries—and I think that innovation will pay off over time.

So while I’m cautious for now and would consider trimming or hedging short-term positions, I’m not abandoning ship. I see this as a period of volatility, not a fundamental collapse. @Tiger_comments

I don’t think musk’s America Party will succeed. Don’t fight history. Although he is well known, I don’t think he has the political aptitude. I also think his policies will favour Tesla rather than the nation. I won’t hold Tesla. After all, competition in the EV industry is intense and we never know if he will be distracted with politics to focus and advance the interests of Tesla. I think it will be back to the fear of a distracted CEO and this is obviously the market’s fear. Tesla stock will only do well if musk focus on his company and less on other toys just because he has the money.

Trump is even more unpredictable than musk. So, I won’t know if trump will be more hostile towards Tesla. But we all know that trump has favoured traditional energy sources so even if he is hostile towards Tesla, I think this just aligns with his core values and views towards energy sources. His relationship with musk merely sparks more openness.

This is the moment. When everything heats up, Elon will take sabbatical leave to focus on bringing Trump down. I'm looking forward to see a mid term switch. Make American Great again indeed.

just trade Tesla. short term volatility but keep an eye on Tesla's growth. that's the real key metric on where the stock is heading long term.
