Palantir (PLTR) – Popular, Pricey, and Not on My Buy List

Palantir Technologies (PLTR) is definitely getting a lot of attention lately. It’s one of those stocks that people tend to keep an eye on alongside more familiar names like Tesla, NVIDIA, and Apple. While it's not in quite the same league as those tech giants in terms of size or revenue, its visibility in the market is undeniable. Social media is buzzing. Retail traders are watching. And yes—today, the stock is in the green. But me? I’m watching from the sidelines, not the buy button.

Why?

First, while the buzz is undeniable, hype alone doesn't justify an investment, especially not at this price. The current share price is hovering around $135.5, which puts it closer to the top of its 52-week range ($21.23 to $148.22). That’s a massive run-up. And while momentum can be a beautiful thing on the way up, it can turn into a freefall just as quickly.

Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR)

I’m a risk-averse investor by nature. That means I’m not in the game to chase trends or ride roller coasters. I prefer steady growth, clear fundamentals, and companies that return value consistently—ideally with dividends. Palantir, as intriguing and futuristic as its technology may be, doesn’t tick those boxes for me.

Buying into a stock at a high price, especially one as volatile and sentiment-driven as PLTR, feels a bit like gambling. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement, but I’d rather not be the person who buys high and ends up selling low in a panic. That’s not investing—that’s speculation.

To Palantir’s credit, it's doing some impressive things with AI, big data, and government contracts. There's clearly a long-term vision behind the company. But vision alone doesn’t reduce risk. At this price point, the margin for error is slim, and the expectations are sky-high. One earnings miss or a shift in sentiment, and we could see a sharp correction.

For now, I’m staying out. Palantir might be popular. It might even be a long-term winner. But as someone who values stability over excitement, it’s simply not the right fit for me, at least not at these levels. I’ll keep watching, but from a safe distance.
