1st Half 2025 Trading Profit/Loss Review

Hello fellow traders on Tiger Broker’s platform.

I’ve been posting most of my trades with brief trading notes onto Tiger Trade Feeds platformas part of my trading journal and hope to contribute my part to this trading community. Early on, Tiger Brokers provided some coins and trading voucher incentives to motivate trader to post more. I had since continued to post consistently regardless of incentives offered and strived to be a better trader through the journey of self-discovery.

This latest posting features Terra Incognita’s trade performance between Jan to June 2025 and my 1st attempt into long form featured post so please bear with me as I learn better writing skills and level up. Hope you enjoy this and feel free to drop messages for conversations.

1st Half 2025 RoR vs. Nasdaq

The 1st 6 months of 2025 had been kind to me, clocking in trading profit of +35.8% versus benchmark Nasdaq of +5.48%. The outperformance against benchmark was +30.32% over the period.

Point to note is the Rate of Return (RoR) used is Money Weighted Return (MWR) which is my preferred ways of measuring how much profit/losses I generated on the specific timeframe instead of using the default RoR Time Weighted Return (TWR) although they both will show profits but at slight variation on performance due to formula differences.

I like to emphasis on the Sharpe Ratio of my portfolio was at 1.83 which was categorised as good and didn’t take additional risk to achieve the level of returns I had. In general, a Sharpe Ratio of 1 is good, 2 or higher is very good and 3 or higher is excellent. A score of < 1 is typically bad as the portfolio is taking additional volatility risk to achieved the desired profits.

Similar performance was achieved if compared to S&P 500 so I didn’t include the chart since it looks similar.

1st Half 2025 RoR vs. Nasdaq Broken Down by Months

If the trading performance was broken into monthly records, so far achieved 5 months of positive trading outcome and only March clocked losses with -0.21% loss of capital. On average, I closed to 6% profits month on month.

1st Half 2025 RoR and Trade Volume (note: had to use 2025 year to date else chart won't generate

As I ramped up my trading intensity this year, I’ve traded 640 trades with an average of 5 trades per day. I usually open most positions on Mondays. One third of all my trades were during the 1st 6 months.

With $USD 1.78M traded value, the average trade size is about $2.8k per trade.

The RoR benchmarked among Tiger trader are at 78 percentile success. Happy to achieve positive outcome consistently. Most of my trades are in selling options so the trade gains amount are mostly pre-defined during trade entries.

All Time RoR and Trade Volume (actively trade since 2023)

Contrast this to all my all-time trade performance with RoR since April 2021 is at 143% and stayed at 98th percentile. Glad to be able to achieve this consistency.

The trade size was larger at $4.2k average per trade. This showed I was trading smaller per trades and evolved to trade more trades over time.

Winning Rate

The winning rate stands at 83% with 495 profitable trades and 97 unprofitable trades.

The win rates are quite consistent by design based on my trade systems. I sell mostly put or all options, most often within the 20 delta to 30 delta range, which by simple definition has a success rate of 70% to 80% of being profitable for sellers of options. The rates are reverse for options buyers.

To be able to achieve 83% win rate for selling 20 to 30 delta options meant I probably have about 10% edge to find profitable trades as compare to random trades.

Options vs. Stocis Trades Amount and %

I defined myself as an overwhelmingly an options trader. During the 1st 6 months, I had made 536 options trades (90%) and 61 stock trades (10%) out of total 597 trades.

I find options trading are more efficient in capital utilization as compared to stocks trading and is more forgiving based on trade mistakes based on my options trading systems. Other traders might have different trading experience based on their level of financial knowledge and trade outcome from both type of trading methods.

Top 5 Most Profitable Trades

Top 5 Most Losses Trades

Shared above 2 tables are my top 5 most profitable trades and most losses trades during the review period. Based on these outcome, traders can decided which of my trades had better trading outcome and which are duds so that you can avoid those trade feeds.

I had my fair share of gains and losses throughout this trading review cycle. I’m glad I came out above and stayed profitable during this period of increased volatility due to tariffs and wars.

5 ideas I would do more moving forward in 2H 2025.

1) Bet more on the winners. If those are consistent winners, the chances are my viewpoint on them are correct.

2) Follow the trend, the trend is my friend. Too often trade countertrend prematurely and ended up taking losses.

3) Find my edge and peace in own trading method and continue to fine tune. There will always be someone with a higher profit per trade or achieved 10x overnight on a single stock. I will strive for consistency on my own trades.

4) Cut my losses earlier. As shown in the Top 5 losses, if I can exit those trades earlier and build onto the winners, I can perhaps achieve an even better trading outcome.

5) Continuous learning. Be open mind, and accept that the only correct views on a trade are the winning ones. My trade opinion won’t matter if it’s a losing trade. The market is always right.

Moving forward, I'm trying to write more articles. What's type of topic would you like to read from me?

I'll probably be writing some trade journals on weekly and monthly basis with different level of summary depth on specific stock and trade strategy.

Thanks. I use the index as guides on performance but rarely trade on them. It’s at all time highs and continue making new highs, so at some point will need to consolidate before next run. Hard to time.
