Global tech had powered gains early in the week, but Friday’s tariff headlines from President Trump sparked a broad sell-off that erased much of the week’s advance — $S&P 500(.SPX)$and $NASDAQ(.IXIC)$ plunged on Friday in their largest one-day drops since April, wiping out weekly gains.
Hong Kong felt the spillover. Local trading was already digesting HSBC’s proposed HK$106.1bn privatization of Hang Seng Bank (announced Oct. 9), which rattled banking stocks and added to regional volatility; the Hang Seng slipped as traders pared risk amid renewed Sino-U.S. jitters.

The effect was magnified by week-end tariff headlines that triggered a sharp sell-off and rebound, keeping TSLA at the center of both panic selling and dip-buying, so daily volumes spiked well above normal.
🔹 Top-performing stock :$Advanced Micro Devices(AMD)$
AMD topped the performance charts after OpenAI announced a multi-year chip-supply deal with AMD—boosting demand expectations for AMD’s Instinct AI accelerators; the news triggered hefty analyst upgrades, strong buy flows into AI/semiconductor names and large ETF/derivative positioning, sending AMD sharply higher.
