Seatrium's Petrobras 78 Achieves First Oil Production

On December 31, 2025, the Petrobras 78 (P-78), the inaugural unit among six P-Series floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessels constructed by Seatrium for Brazil's Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras), successfully commenced its first oil production.

First oil signifies the official initiation of production as hydrocarbons are first introduced into the vessel's processing systems. This procedure involves opening a well to initiate the flow of hydrocarbons. The oil then travels through subsea pipelines, ascends via risers, and finally reaches the FPSO, marking the start of production operations.

Seatrium announced that this achievement demonstrates the group's successful extension of its comprehensive engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) capabilities to now encompass offshore commissioning for FPSO vessels.

This milestone also represents the concluding stage of the offshore commissioning activities, paving the way for the vessel's final acceptance by Petrobras.

Marlin Khiew, Executive Vice President of Seatrium Energy (Americas), stated, "This is a proud moment for Seatrium – the P-78 achieved first oil in record time, showcasing the agility of our One Seatrium Global Delivery Model and our capacity to adapt to our customers' evolving needs, consistently delivering complex, high-quality vessels safely and efficiently."

He added, "This accomplishment would not have been possible without the ongoing trust and collaboration from Petrobras. We will leverage the experience and insights gained from the P-78 to complete our five remaining P-Series FPSO projects, each featuring innovative sustainability elements to support Petrobras' decarbonization efforts."

The P-78 is the 37th FPSO project delivered by Seatrium to Petrobras. It is stationed in the Buzios field within the Santos Basin, approximately 180 to 230 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. Permanently moored at a water depth of around 2,100 meters, the P-78 ranks among the largest FPSOs ever delivered to Brazil.

This FPSO is engineered to achieve a peak production capacity of up to 180,000 barrels of oil per day and 7.2 million cubic meters of gas per day. It also possesses a minimum crude oil storage capacity of 2 million barrels.

Collectively, the six P-Series FPSO projects under construction by Seatrium, which include the P-78, will contribute an additional 1.305 million barrels of oil per day to Brazil's production capacity.

On January 2, shares of Seatrium closed at $2.17, reflecting an increase of 1 cent, or 0.46%.
