$Rocket Lab USA, Inc.(RKLB)$ $SpaceX(SPCX)$ $AST SpaceMobile, Inc.(ASTS)$ 🚀 $RKLB Q2 2026 earnings: 16.9% Move Priced In, Shorts Are Watching
Rocket Lab $RKLB reports Q2 earnings after the close tonight, and this one has the ingredients for a serious volatility event.
The stock has finished 5 of its last 8 post-earnings sessions higher, including a monster 34.5% surge following its May report. That reaction came after Rocket Lab delivered record $200.3M Q1 revenue, up 63.5% YoY, while backlog climbed to $2.2B. (Rocket Lab Corporation)
Now the market is demanding another step-up.
📊 Earnings setup:
• Average post-earnings move: 12.1%
• Options-implied move: 16.9%
• SVS: 95/100
• Short interest: +34% across the last 2 reporting periods
• 7.7% of float sold short
The options market is therefore pricing a move roughly 40% larger than $RKLB’s historical average earnings reaction.
Technically, the setup has become even more interesting.
$RKLB has rebounded sharply from its late-July low of $58.20, reclaimed its 320-day moving average and put together 7 consecutive winning sessions. The stock has also rallied more than 40% into earnings, meaning expectations are already elevated. (EBC Financial Group)
Fundamentally, Q2 guidance called for $225M-$240M revenue, with GAAP gross margin of 33%-35%. The bigger question for me is whether Rocket Lab can continue converting its enormous backlog into accelerating revenue while simultaneously funding the development of Neutron. (Rocket Lab Corporation)
And then there is the short-interest wildcard.
With 7.7% of the float sold short and short interest rising 34% over two reporting periods, a genuine upside surprise could create another squeeze. But after such a powerful run into earnings, even a solid quarter may not be enough if guidance or Neutron commentary fails to exceed elevated expectations.
That is what makes tonight particularly interesting: the market isn’t just trading the numbers. It is trading the gap between what Rocket Lab delivers and what investors have already priced in.
I’m watching revenue growth, margins, backlog conversion, launch cadence, cash usage and, above all, the latest Neutron timeline.
👉❓Will $RKLB launch into another post-earnings breakout, or has the recent rally already priced in too much perfection?
