1. Why EPS Matters?

Earnings per share(EPS) refer to the income per share brought to investors/shareholders in the open market.

EPS is calculated as a company's profit divided by the outstanding shares of its common stock. The resulting number serves as an indicator of a company's profitability.

Investors like companies with high profitability, and the market always rewards those earnings results that beat the estimates. Hope the following content helps you learn more about good companies.

🎁Capturing Top 10 Ex-dividend: PRU, JNJ, R, ATO, SPGI…

1. Which High Ex-dividend Stock (on August 24 ~ August 28) Do You Like the Most?

This week’s ex-dividend list includes big names like $PRU$ and $JNJ$. These stocks are about to put decent dividends into your pocket, but which one fits your dividend watch list best?

Editor's notes:

A dividend-paying stock ex-dividend date, or ex-date, is very important to investors. In a nutshell, if you buy a dividend stock before the ex-dividend date, then you will receive the next upcoming dividend payment.

If you purchase the stock on or after the ex-dividend date, you will not receive the dividend. Some investors utilize strategies whereby they will purchase stocks just prior to an ex-dividend date and sell shortly thereafter.

My Take: NVDA for Growth, PRU for Income

If I had to pick one stock from this week’s list, NVDA would be my top choice. The setup is attractive, but expectations are extremely high. Wall Street expects Q2 EPS around $2.09, up roughly 99% YoY, with revenue near $92 billion. The real test is not simply beating EPS—it is whether Blackwell demand, hyperscaler capex and the Vera Rubin roadmap can support another leg higher.

For a more conservative dividend play, I prefer PRU. Its August 25 ex-dividend date carries a $1.40 quarterly payout and roughly 4.6% yield, offering a much different risk/reward profile from AI stocks.

My watchlist: NVDA for growth, MRVL for AI infrastructure momentum, and PRU for income. The key is to avoid chasing a strong EPS number if guidance fails to justify the valuation.

For me, $NVIDIA(NVDA)$ is the clear standout from this week’s earnings list. Strong EPS expectations and continued AI infrastructure demand make it difficult to ignore. I’m watching not only whether NVDA beats EPS, but also whether its forward guidance can justify the high expectations already priced into the stock.

I’m particularly interested in how Nvidia’s margins hold up as memory and component costs rise. If it can maintain strong profitability despite higher input costs, that would reinforce my bullish long-term view and highlight its pricing power across the AI ecosystem.

I’d rather accumulate NVDA gradually than chase a big move around earnings. Short-term volatility is likely, but if AI demand continues to compound over the next few years, I’m comfortable treating meaningful pullbacks as opportunities to build my position.

From a dividend angle, BMO stands out most to me — the payout growth track record is steadier than the flashier EPS names. Ex-dividend consistency matters more here
