Singapore Shares Rise Despite Regional Losses Over AI Comments
Singapore shares surged on Monday, despite regional indices reacting negatively to recent statements made by leaders of OpenAI and Anthropic calling for a slowdown in AI development to manage risks and protect humanity.The Straits Times Index , a key benchmark for the Singapore Exchange, ranged between 5,677.79 and 5,725.56 throughout the day. It ended the session at 5,718.02, up 22.09 points or 0.4% compared to Friday's close.On the corporate front, shares of CapAllianz surged over 100% at the close as the company proposed to place around 1.95 billion shares at SG$0.0011 apiece to raise around SG$2.1 million.MetaOptics closed over 5% lower as it unveiled plans to raise around SG$1.1 million via the placement of about 2.7 million shares at SG$0.3912 apiece.Meanwhile, JEP Holdings confirmed plans to transfer its listing to the Mainboard of the Singapore Exchange.
