🚀 Rocket Lab — 100+ MISSIONS AND COUNTING
$Rocket Lab USA, Inc.(RKLB)$ just gave investors another reason to watch the space sector.
The company has signed its largest-ever commercial Electron launch contract: 20 additional missions for Japanese Earth-observation company Synspective, scheduled between 2028 and 2031. The deal brings Synspective’s total contracted Electron missions to 47 and pushes Rocket Lab’s overall launch backlog above 100 missions.
That’s the part I find interesting.
Space stocks are often valued on what they might accomplish years from now. Rocket Lab is increasingly showing actual commercial demand today.
The company isn’t just launching rockets. It is building a broader space business covering launch services, satellites, components and national-security programs.
And the latest contract adds another layer of visibility.
Synspective plans to use Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket to deploy its StriX synthetic-aperture radar satellites, building a network designed to observe locations around the world regardless of weather or daylight.
Meanwhile, Rocket Lab continues to expand beyond commercial launches, with government and defence contracts becoming an increasingly important part of the story.
That creates an interesting investment debate:
🚀 Electron: Proven small-launch vehicle with a growing backlog
🛰️ Space systems: More than just a rocket company
🛡️ Defence: Increasing exposure to government space programs
🌎 Satellite demand: Growing need for communications and Earth observation
🔭 Neutron: The next major test of Rocket Lab’s ability to move into larger launches
The biggest risk is valuation.
A growing backlog doesn’t automatically mean growing profits, and investors are already pricing in substantial future growth. Rocket Lab still has to execute, scale its business and eventually demonstrate that revenue growth can translate into sustainable profitability.
But that’s what makes $RKLB interesting to me.
The space economy is moving beyond the question of “Can they launch?”
The bigger question is becoming:
“Who can build a sustainable business around everything happening in space?”
Rocket Lab is increasingly positioning itself for that second question.
🚀 100+ missions in the backlog. The next chapter could be much bigger than Electron.
