$Meta Platforms, Inc.(META)$ is back in the spotlight after launching two new AI models, Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full. Shares rose more than 3% following the announcement as investors gained fresh evidence that Meta’s huge AI investment may be starting to deliver results.
🧠 What’s different this time?
Meta says its new models can compete with leading offerings from OpenAI and Anthropic.
The standout features are:
🔹 Active Memory — remembers important details across conversations, reducing the need for users to repeat themselves.
🔹 Active Focus — works through complex tasks, tries alternative approaches and recovers from errors.
🔹 Real-world applications — from coding and analysing documents to handling more complicated professional tasks.
Meta plans to integrate Muse Wonder into its Muse assistant, initially for subscribers. The models are also available through its developer and coding platforms.
💰 Why investors should care
Meta already has something many AI competitors would love: access to billions of users through Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
If it can combine competitive AI models with that enormous distribution network, it has an opportunity to generate additional subscription revenue, improve engagement and potentially strengthen its advertising business.
But there’s a catch.
Meta expects capital expenditure of $130 billion to $145 billion in 2026. Stronger AI models are encouraging, but investors still need evidence that the returns will justify the spending.
🎯 My takeaway
The interesting part isn’t simply that Meta has released another AI model. It’s that Meta could have multiple ways to monetise AI: subscriptions, business tools and improvements to its existing advertising ecosystem.
The next milestone is commercial execution, not just benchmark performance.
Can Meta turn its AI comeback into a meaningful new revenue engine, or will the cost of competing with OpenAI and Anthropic eat into future profits?
