$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ BYD has built an electric supercar that can literally hop and jump. The vehicle is the Yangwang U9, a high-performance luxury electric hypercar priced around $230,000 to $240,000.
The trick comes from BYD's DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System, a highly sophisticated active suspension setup. It uses rapid computer processing, cameras, and ultra-fast hydraulics to adjust each wheel independently.
When first unveiled, the car showed this off by squatting and leaping a few inches completely off the ground from a standstill. In marketing and testing videos, an autonomously driven U9 was also filmed accelerating to 120 km/h and using its suspension to launch itself up to 6 meters forward through the air, clearing potholes, road hazards, and spike strips cleanly.
