My Investing Muse (26May25) Layoffs & Closure news Walmart is slashing about 1,500 US jobs as part of a restructuring plan to cut expenses and simplify operations following its recent price hikes. - Daily Mail UK Booz Allen will cut 7% of its workforce, 2,500 employees, per Bloomberg Walgreens, which operates about 8,600 stores, in 2024 said it would close 1,200 underperforming stores over a three-year period, with 500 closings planned in fiscal year 2025, as part of its out-of-court restructuring plan. - The Street The above are some news items about layoffs and closures. Trump’s 90-day pause on most tariffs could spur an S-REIT rebound amidst broad relief rally【CSOP Fixed Income Weekly】

【SRT】 Last week, SRT fell amid market risk-off sentiment following Trump’s escalating trade war. The decline was led by industrial, office and retail by subsectors and MLT, FLT, and MPACT by individual REITs. Nevertheless, DBS notes that oversold S-REITs (~6.5% yields; ~4.0% yield spreads) has hit support levels. Trump’s 90-day pause on most tariffs could spur an S-REIT rebound amidst broad relief rally. 【MMF】 Last week, US Treasuries saw elevated volatility amidst the slew of tariff-headlines. Focus was on the trade-related news development and the FOMC minutes released was mostly ignored by the markets.  Meanwhile, the latest CPI report released showed both headline and core CPI were 0.2% lower than consensus estimates on MoM basis. We expect CSOPUMM to continue to deliver stable yi

Trump’s “Liberation Day” Tariffs Might Last Several Years. Here’s Why.

The 2nd of April 2025 was proclaimed by President Trump as “Liberation Day” wherein the U.S. government announced a host of sweeping tariff hikes across the board with all of America's trading partners. These tariffs announced were by far the most sweeping set of hikes announced since the 1930 Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act. Perhaps, that which boggled the minds of most economists were the claims made about the "casus belli": tariffs being levied by other countries on U.S. goods, examples of which were shown to the media on a board wherein the first column were the names of select countries, the second column was titled "Tariffs Charged to the U.S.A. Including Currency Manipulation and Trade Barriers" and the third column was titled "U.S.A. Discounted Reciprocal Tariffs".Source: White H

Life isn’t a straight line. And that’s okay.

Some days you’re winning. Other days, you’re just holding on. Kind of like the stock market—up, down, sideways. But over time, if you stay consistent and stay in the game, you grow. Your journey is the same. There will be high seasons—like a stock that’s pumping. And there will be dips that test your patience. But remember: progress isn’t always visible in the moment. Just like long-term investing, the real magic happens when you stay committed even on the quiet days. Don’t compare your portfolio or your pace to someone else’s. Don’t panic sell your worth during a rough patch. Zoom out. You’re building something. Keep learning. Keep showing up. One small step, one smart decision at a time. And whether it’s in life or in investing—the best returns come to those who stay the course.  #L

Are You Feeling Fear or Greed Right Now?

Warren Buffett once famously advised: “Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful.” It’s one of those rare investment mantras that sounds elegant and simple — but applying it in real life, especially when markets are in chaos, is anything but easy. Lately, the markets have been volatile, to say the least. Bearish sentiment has been creeping in, driven in part by global trade tensions and uncertainty around tariffs. After President Trump announced a temporary 90-day pause on the enforcement of reciprocal tariffs against key U.S. trade partners, the stock market erupted in a historic single-day surge. It felt like a sudden sigh of relief — and yet, just one day later, the market plunged again. That swing is more than just numbers; it reflects the emotional rolle

Is the Downturn a Good Time to Revisit Buffett's Wisdom?

As markets stumble and uncertainty grips the global economy, Berkshire Hathaway quietly sits on a war chest of $334 billion in cash—the largest in its history. While headlines scream panic and portfolios bleed red, Warren Buffett remains unshaken. The Oracle of Omaha has lived through more crashes, bubbles, and bear markets than most investors have even read about, and he’s often emerged stronger on the other side. So, in times like these, is there a better compass than Buffett’s timeless wisdom? One of my favorite quotes from Buffett is: "You’ve got to be prepared, when you buy a stock, to have it go down 50% — or more — and be comfortable with it, as long as you’re comfortable with the holding." This mindset has been my anchor. When I buy stocks or ETFs, I do so with the understanding th

Fear or Greed Are 2 Emotions That We Need To Be Alert To

🌟🌟🌟Fear and Greed are 2 extreme emotions that we need to pay attention to.  Fear makes us sell the bottom .  Greed makes us buy the top . Together they can wreck our portfolio leaving a trail of losses behind. Tiger Brokers have a new trading feature called the Fear and Greed Index.  Currently it is sitting at Extreme Fear Level 8.  It is not surprising as we have a US administration that changes their policies sometimes by the hour, leaving the markets in disarray, not knowing what to expect. Yesterday's market was one of  greed with buyers flooding back into the markets , making it one of the fastest recovery on news that Trump is pausing implementing the full trade tariffs and just having a blanket 10% tariff across the board for almost all the 185 cou

Are You Feeling Fear or Greed Right Now?

The market has been on a rollercoaster lately — wild swings, mixed signals, and emotion-driven moves. One day it's panic selling, the next day it’s a buying frenzy. One moment it feels like a golden buying opportunity, the next it feels like you're catching a falling knife. This is when we turn to one of Warren Buffett’s most quoted principles:"Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful."It’s a great principle, but tough to follow in real time. When fear sets in, it’s hard to stay rational. When greed takes over, it’s easy to get swept up in the hype. That’s where the Tiger Fear & Greed Index comes in — a real-time sentiment tracker that reflects what investors are feeling right now. It’s based on multiple market indicators: momentum, volatility, breadth, deman

The hardest thing to predict is policy. Sentiment usually follow policies, inflation and earnings reports. Traders use technicals because there is some form of predictability. Policy is unexpected and unpredictable. We only know when it is announced eg chips act, tariffs, retaliation by other countries, new trade agreement are beyond the control of us. @Fenger1188 @SPOT_ON @rL @Kaixiang @Success88 @DiAngel @W
Today was a big pump fueled by Trump's tweet which signalled a potential relief to the trade war. It was a pump for the history books and many were caught off guard shorting the markets or having sold at a low, fearful for lower.  This is a reminder to: 1. Buy the dip and be able to hold through volatile times.  2. Use less leverage, less options and you will be able to hold. Only use leverage if you are somehow confident that this is the bottom.  3. Don't be fearful and panic sell. Hold good companies and they will come back again. 4. Don't be greedy and try to short the bottom. Most likely you are already late once the news hit the media. 5. Survive and stay safe. Remember that money is just money. Living a good life with family is most important.
