$AAPL Flashes a Buy Signal on Weighted Put-Call Ratio

$AAPL$ $MSTR$  By Lawrence G. McMillan Apple ($AAPL) has just triggered a buy signal based on our weighted put-call ratio, one of our more reliable sentiment-based indicators for this stock. Historically, these signals have generally preceded intermediate-term rallies in $AAPL, and the current setup looks promising. From a technical perspective, $AAPL recently broke out of its short-term downtrend, forming a series of higher lows and consolidating just beneath resistance. That resistance has now given way, and the next logical upside target is the 200-day moving average. The chart at the top of the page shows the weighted put-call ratio and its recent buy trigger. Below, the price chart illustra

Free Weekly Stock Market Commentary 7/11/2025

$VXX$ $TVIX$  By Lawrence G. McMillan The stock market has continued to make new all-time highs, accompanied by strong internal indicators. Eventually, overbought conditions may become confirmed sell signals, but so far that x hasn't been the case. $SPX has support at 6150 (the previous highs), 6020-6060 (the highest open gap on the chart), and 5920. If it were to fall below 5920 then the $SPX chart would no longer be bullish, but we are not looking for that to happen. Equity-only put-call ratios continue to fall. They are making new relative lows almost every day. This movement canceled out a previous sell signal and returned these indicators to a bullish status for stocks. As long as the ratios

$VXX$ $TVIX$  The stock market, has continued to rise, registering new all-time highs repeatedly. It appears that the current breakout to new all-time highs is stronger than the failed one of last February. There is support at 6150 (the old highs), 6020 (the highest circled gap on the accompanying $SPX chart in Figure 1), and 5920. A pullback below 5920 would negate the current upside breakout, but I don't expect that to happen. The market internals are strong. This is in stark contrast to the upside breakout in February when they were not. Equity-only put-call ratios had been on a sell signal, but that has been stopped out by the fact that both ratios have moved to new relative lows below the Ju

Free Weekly Stock Market Commentary 7/25/2025

$VXX$ $TVIX$  By Lawrence G. McMillan < The rally that began in early April continues to drive higher into new all-time territory. There hasn't been much of a correction, and so far the internals have held up very well. However, overbought conditions are building, so we need to avoid complacency and pay attention to the indicators. The $SPX chart is bullish, with support at 6200 (last week's low), 6150 (the previous highs), 6020-6060 (the gap on the chart), and 5920. These are all marked on the $SPX chart in Figure 1. Equity-only put-call ratios have reached very low levels on their charts, thus reflecting the optimism that is naturally associated with $SPX plowing ahead to new all-time highs

Free Weekly Stock Market Commentary 10/17/2025

$UVXY$  By Lawrence G. McMillan The market has definitely run into some trouble, and this time it might be significant. However, $SPX has held at a well- defined support level several times now, so that gives us a clear demarcation line between bullish and bearish on the chart. Trouble initially began recently on October 10th, when the new round of China tariffs was threatened. The market threw a "tariff tantrum," and stock prices plunged. The lows that day were near 6500. Again, this past Tuesday, $SPX sold off hard, but bounced from the 6555 area. Finally, last night S&P futures were down 105 points at one time, but have rallied since. That low was essentially the equivalent for $SPX of about 6525. So, the 6500-6550 level is now major s

Oracle ($ORCL) Triggers First Weekly MVB Sell Signal Since Jan '25

$ORCL$  By Lawrence G. McMillan Oracle Corp. ($ORCL) just flashed a notable technical shift this morning: a weekly MVB Sell Signal — its first since January 2025 (chart above). The stock also recently issued a weighted Put-Call Ratio Sell Signal (below), meaning several of our intermediate-term indicators are now pointing in the same bearish direction. When these signals align, the probability of further downside increases. A Look Back at the Rally Oracle has been one of the market’s standout performers in 2025. After bottoming in April, the stock surged on strong demand for its cloud infrastructure and AI-driven database products, riding the same wave of enthusiasm that lifted other large-cap tech names. What’s All the Fuss About Box Spreads (Preview)

$BOX$ $XYZ$  By Lawrence G. McMillan Recently, there have been some articles in the media – both print and social – about box spreads and how people are using them to get reduced-cost loans. Some of these articles lacked full information and others seem to miss the point completely, so we thought we’d explain how this whole thing works. Definition A box spread involves four options – two puts and two calls, two striking prices, and all with just one expiration date. It is actually a form of arbitrage that has been available in the option markets since day 1. For example, in a box spread, one might be selling a call credit spread and also selling a put credit spread with the exact same te

Free Weekly Stock Market Commentary 11/28/2025

$UVXY$  By Lawrence G. McMillan The stock market sold off fairy heavily into the 6500-6550 support zone for $SPX on November 14, but then it rallied strongly off of that support area. That support has been tested several times and continues to get an A+ on the test. But overhead, there is a myriad of resistance, so for now $SPX remains in a trading range. The index has rallied back to and slightly exceeded its declining 20-day moving average, near 6750. Above that, however, there is a downtrend line at about 6850 and then the all-time highs, at 6900. Equity-only put-call ratios have continued to march higher, though, as traders have been steadily buying puts probably more as a protective measure than a bearish speculation. Regardless, as long

The Heating Oil – Gasoline Spread 2025 (Preview)

By Lawrence G. McMillan We have been trading this seasonal spread annually every year since 1994, except for 1995.  Last year, we were stopped out with a rather large loss after 53 trading days.  The spread was sitting very near our stop one day, and then jumped over six points higher the next day, costing an additional $2,520 per contract.  In its current form, we buy RBOB Gasoline futures and sell Heating Oil futures, with both contracts expiring in February of the following year.  The spread is entered in late November and is normally exited in late December or early January.  We do not use options in the spread.  We have looked many times at trying to incorporate options, but the time value premium of February options bought in November is just too damagin
