The macroeconomic environment is far too uncertain to warrant that type of near-term optimism.</p><h2>Global-e Online: Cross-border e-commerce made easy</h2><p>Global-e simplifies cross-border e-commerce by helping merchants optimize their digital stores for international buyers. The Global-e platform localizes details like language, currency, and payment options, and it surfaces data-driven insights to help merchants understand shopper behavior on a market-by-market basis. Those services boost international conversion rates, often by more than 60%, according to the company.</p><p>Additionally, Global-e provides fulfillment services through a partner network of shipping carriers, and it offers support for returns and customer service. Better yet, its platform removes much of the regulatory complexity associated with international expansion by helping merchants calculate and pay import duties and foreign sales tax. unlikely to produce the same effect.</p><p>Nonetheless, he argues that bargain hunters, particularly those with a longer-term focus who can ride out a bit of near-term volatility, would do well put cash to work.</p><p>“We’re seeing a lot of value …it’s paradoxical, but when the macro backdrop is so poor, that’s when you find good values.”</p><p>There are few places where that may be truer than consumer discretionary, a sector that’s been slammed even harder than the broader market this year. Yet McMahon believes that despite higher inflation, consumers still seem inclined to spend, bolstered by some lingering pandemic savings.</p><p>He points to <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NKE\">Nike</a>, saying it is “akin to a luxury brand and very viable long term.” The company has had recent woes, stemming from high inventory and continued uncertainty about its growth in the key market of China. With shares off 47% year to date, it’s “for long-term investors, it’s a good place to be; but that’s not to say it’s not going to bounce around with the rest of the market.”</p><p>Speaking of that volatility, he believes that despite their relative outperformance, consumer staples still present an attractive place to hide. He points to <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/KO\">Coca-Cola</a>, a<i>Barron’s</i> favoritethat is facing meaningful foreign exchange headwinds, but nonetheless enjoys strong pricing power. “Even within staples you want to be in the higher quality companies [that can raise prices]; those on the more commodity-driven end will get squeezed.”</p><p>On the other end of the spectrum, McMahon remains overweight energy, despite the sector’s big run and what is likely to be some demand destruction from a weaker economy. This time, debate has focused on the short bit of commentary that Tesla provided as it posted 343,830 deliveries for the third quarter, below the 371,000 that analysts tracked by FactSet had been expecting, and also below the 365,923 vehicles that the company said it produced in the period.</p><p>Tesla explained in a press release that delivery volumes have been heavily weighted to the end of quarters “due to regional batch building of cars,” but that as production volumes have increased, it’s become “increasingly challenging to secure vehicle transportation capacity and at a reasonable cost during these peak logistics weeks.” The company has moved to “a more even regional mix of vehicle builds each week, which led to an increase in cars in transit at the end of the quarter.”</p><p>Tesla’s stock fell 8.6% in the first trading session after the deliveries were announced.</p><p>While Tesla seemed to peg its problems to delivery logistics, some analysts weren’t sure that was the only challenge facing the <a class=\"promotion-word\" href=\"https://ttm.financial/U/4197425891462882\">Elon Musk</a>-led company these days.</p><p>“A top concern right now is demand in China as wait times seem to be shrinking,” wrote RBC Capital Markets analyst Joseph Spak. Retail sales data also indicated resilience among consumers.</p><p>\"The main thrust for the market right now is higher interest rates, higher inflation and the Fed is going to continue to move its fed funds target higher,\" said Anthony Saglimbene, chief market strategist at Ameriprise Financial in Troy, Michigan.</p><p>\"The narrative that we’ve seen peak inflation is not evident yet and that’s depressing the market.\"</p><p>On Thursday, a reading on consumer prices (CPI) showed inflation remained stubbornly high.</p><p>Fed officials have been largely in sync when commenting on the need to raise rates and St. Louis Fed President James Bullard said in a Reuters interview the recent CPI data warrants a continued \"frontloading\" through larger three-quarter-percentage point steps, although that does not necessarily mean rates need to be raised above the central bank's most recent projections.</p><p>The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 403.89 points, or 1.34%, to 29,634.83, the S&P 500 lost 86.84 points, or 2.37%, to 3,583.07 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 327.76 points, or 3.08%, to 10,321.39.</p><p>Friday's decline marked the 37th time the S&P 500 recorded a gain or loss of at least 2% compared with only seven such session in all of 2021.
