Trump to Take Stake in Quantum Computing! Will His “Golden Touch” Send Stocks Soaring?

The Trump administration is reportedly in talks to take equity stakes in quantum-computing firms through $10 million funding awards.

Quantum-related stocks, which recently corrected from their all-time highs, surged overnight: $IONQ Inc.(IONQ)$, $D-Wave Quantum Inc.(QBTS)$, $Rigetti Computing(RGTI)$ and $Quantum Computing Inc.(QUBT)$ all rise over 15%.

However, some argue that these companies are merely meme stocks with weak fundamentals — the entire sector remains unprofitable, and all four mentioned companies still report negative EPS.

Investors who seek stability tend to prefer big tech firms also involved in quantum computing, such as $Alphabet(GOOG)$, $Microsoft(MSFT)$ and $IBM(IBM)$ which are well-diversified across multiple areas.

Would you choose quantum computing?

Over the past few months, Trump’s investments have shown a “golden touch” in the stock market.

  • In August, the U.S. government took nearly a 10% stake in $Intel(INTC)$ by converting $9 billion in prior grants into equity. After Trump’s entry, Intel’s stock surged nearly 80%.

  • A similar deal later followed with one of the few U.S. rare-earth producers, and the rare-earth stock $MP Materials Corp.(MP)$ is now up over 300% year-to-date.

Quantum computing has also performed well this year.

So who will Trump pick next?

Stocks like $IONQ Inc.(IONQ)$ , $Rigetti Computing(RGTI)$ , $D-Wave Quantum Inc.(QBTS)$ , $Churchill Capital Corp X(CCCX)$ , and $SEALSQ Corp(LAES)$ now sit at the center of U.S. tech policy, as quantum emerges as the next strategic frontier.

IonQ, Rigetti Computing, and D-Wave Quantum are discussing the government becoming a shareholder in exchange for federal funding, while Quantum Computing Inc. and Atom Computing are exploring similar arrangements. Each company is reportedly in talks for minimum awards of $10 million.

Big Tech Enters the Scene: Is Quantum More Than Just Hype?

Google announced on Wednesday that its quantum computer can run 13,000 times faster than traditional supercomputers — a breakthrough that could accelerate drug discovery and materials science.

Meanwhile, $NVIDIA(NVDA)$ CEO Jensen Huang, who once expressed skepticism toward quantum computing, changed his tone at this year’s GTC conference, saying:

“Quantum computing is nearing an inflection point.”

Discussion

  1. So, could quantum computing become the next “Trump sector”?

  2. Would you bet on early-stage quantum firms — and if so, which one?

  3. Who do you think will be Trump’s next pick?

  4. Do you believe quantum computing will be the next big thing within 20 years?

The government’s renewed push into quantum computing is intriguing, especially given Trump’s track record of boosting sectors he backs. If stakes in $IONQ Inc.(IONQ)$ or $Rigetti Computing(RGTI)$ happen, it could add funding and legitimacy to a still-nascent field. But I’m cautious — most quantum firms remain unprofitable, and recent rallies look more speculative than sustainable.

I prefer exposure through big tech names like $Microsoft(MSFT)$ , $IBM(IBM)$ , or $Alphabet(GOOGL)$ . They’re advancing quantum research while staying profitable in AI and cloud, offering far more stability than pure-play firms. Still, government involvement could accelerate real progress faster than expected.

In the long run, quantum computing could reshape industries from cybersecurity to drug discovery, though the shift will be slow. It’s on my radar, not my core portfolio — but if Trump’s “golden touch” strikes again, I might take a small speculative bet.

🌟🌟🌟Quantum computing isn't just a buzzword. It is the shimmering edge of tomorrow's tech frontier.  With the Trump Administration reportedly injecting USD10 million into select US quantum firms, we maybe witnessing the birth of a new Trump sector.

Will Quantum be the next big thing in 20 years?  Yes but not in a straight line.  It will be in quantum leaps.  The breakthroughs will be uneven, the hype cycles wild but the impact will be seismic! Think of it as the hottest trades in 2040 where today's conviction will become tomorrow's legacy.

My picks will be the Big 4 Quantum stocks :  $IONQ Inc.(IONQ)$ specialising in trapped ion quantum hardware

$Rigetti Computing(RGTI)$ with its superconducting qubits technology

$D-Wave Quantum Inc.(QBTS)$ whose focus is quantum annealing

$Quantum Computing Inc.(QUBT)$ which specialises in software & hybrid quantum.

These are high risk high rewards play but transformative!

Quantum IS the way of the future! I think Ionq leads the race. It has an impressive executive team, has invested in partnerships that cover all aspects of development. It’s recent acquisition of Lightsynq strengthens its quantum networking roadmap. It’s data centre factory has been operating in Seattle for almost two years providing Ionq Forte and Tempo systems via cloud access to customer base. Quantum has potential in a myriad of applications - I think Ionq is a great bet for the not too distant future!

If reports from $Alphabet(GOOG)$ are studied, they have developed new quantum algorithms and if they are investing so much, it is surely not hype. That said due to risks with the small companies, I would take small positions in stocks like $Rigetti Computing(RGTI)$ and $IONQ Inc.(IONQ)$ while allocating more to $Microsoft(MSFT)$ $Alphabet(GOOG)$ as they are more stable plays. This way one always hopes the small players become multibaggers while the big players have steady growth!

if trump administration invest in ionq , there will be filled by  another  investments from private. maybe alphabet or Microsoft will follow suit to invest in ionq after trump administration. base on previous account, after usa government initial investment in Intel , then nivida invested . same for mp material Corp, Apple invest in mp Corp  after USA government. ionq should be the better choice among the quantum computing companies.

Trump will not invest these companies without return. Quantum sector is still under research and development stage which is unlikely to give any good profit in the near view. However, if you have a further study on how quantum works or how quantum-related technology can bring us the benefits, you will understand why hr made such decisions. Quantum needs breakthrough and repeated breaking of speeds and puzzles, it can be used in various sectors including medicines, cures, new chemical or metal formation, light speed etc. I have invested in QBTS since last year. For long term invest, yes, you may explore. For short-term traders, you may need to wait for the opportunities.

"A credible machine harnessing bizarre sub-atomic phenomena could surpass ordinary computers at tasks like drug discovery.
It could also break crucial encryption methods."
This time round I support "Trump's movement" & certainly can feel an excitement for the next company on the list..
I wouldn't speculate as I may not be able to foresee Trump's actions so whichever company it is.. good luck [Tongue]

Realistically, I think quantum computing makes more sense than whatever form of AI the public is pushed to use (too much energy consumption for trivial pursuits or for nefarious purposes), so why not, let's join the trump hype! Quantum computing it is!

    如果让我押注,我会关注像**IonQ(IONQ)或Rigetti(RGTI)**这类已上市的早期玩家。

I think quantum computing could be the next ‘trump sector’. Trump is first and foremost a businessman. He will not make money losing business. He definitely has understood it well and think it is crucial to the US to have a stake in it for future economic returns and national security. Next to AI, this could well be the next engine to enhance performance of technology by leaps and bounds. He would want to enter in early to secure a good price before the sector matures and everyone has a stake in it. By having a huge stake in it, he could make it the governement’s workhorse without having to set up from scratch.

As a conservative investor, I rarely bet early when profits are not in yet. I prefer to buy when there are some signs of turning profit or signs of increase profit making potential. So, none.

I think trump would buy RGTI and QBTS as they are the more promising ones.

Quantum computing definitely will be the next big thing in 20 years, or even 10 at the current development pace

Trump’s involvement could raise the profile of quantum computing, but the sector’s future remains uncertain, with the CEO of Nvidia (NVDA) predicting decades before useful quantum computers are ready, while others anticipate breakthroughs in just a few years

Investing in quantum firms is risky; government contracts have boosted some stocks, but the sector is still in early stages with unpredictable growth

Trump may favor US companies with strong ties to defense and manufacturing, particularly those with government contracts, making them more attractive

Experts are divided on whether quantum computing will take decades to mature or experience breakthroughs in just a few years, depending on ongoing investment and technological advancements。。。
