$IAU 20261030 77.5 PUT$ ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿพ Blink Fans Market Journal: Why I Sold the IAU $77.50 Put

๐Ÿฅ‡ 1. Why am I making this trade now?

I decided to sell the IAU $77.50 put expiring on 30 October 2026 because I want to take advantage of the current gold price consolidation while collecting option premium. Instead of rushing to buy gold exposure immediately, I prefer to let the market come closer to my desired entry price and get paid for taking that risk.

I sold the put at approximately US$0.89 per share, which represents US$89 in premium before fees for one standard contract covering 100 shares. My trading screenshot showed an unrealized gain of around 1.13% at that point. My plan is to buy back the put later if its price @InverseCramer falls sufficiently, allowing me to keep the difference @Shernice่ป’ๅฌฃ 2000 as profit.

Of course, this is not a guaranteed win. Selling a put means I receive premium upfront but accept the possibility of buying 100 IAU shares at US$77.50 per share if assigned. I must be comfortable owning the ETF even if gold prices fall further.

๐Ÿ“‰ 2. Why am I watching gold?

Gold is interesting because it can act as a portfolio diversifier when investors worry about geopolitical tensions, inflation, economic uncertainty or financial-market volatility. IAU allows me to gain exposure to gold prices without physically storing gold.

However, gold does not always rise when the world looks uncertain. If the US dollar strengthens or interest rates remain elevated, gold can come under pressure because it does not pay interest like bonds or cash deposits.

In my screenshot, IAU is trading around US$77.60โ€“US$77.85. The daily chart shows a substantial retreat from its earlier high near US$91.93, with a previous low around US$74.44.

To me, the correction creates an opportunity to study a potential entry. But I will not assume that the bottom is in. Prices can continue falling even after a significant decline.

๐Ÿ“Š 3. What does my technical analysis tell me?

I use moving averages, support and resistance, and the Relative Strength Index (RSI) to help assess the trade.

Support: The US$77โ€“US$78 area is worth watching because IAU has recently traded around these levels. The previous low near US$74.44 is another important reference point. If the price approaches that low again, I will watch whether buyers defend the area or selling pressure accelerates.

Moving averages: My chart displays moving-average readings around US$78.01, US$78.05, US$79.64, US$80.00 and US$82.20. IAU trading below most of these levels suggests that the broader technical trend remains weak. These averages could become resistance during a rebound.

RSI: My chart shows RSI6 at 44.65, RSI12 at 43.45 and RSI24 at 44.96. These readings are below the neutral 50 level but above the conventional oversold threshold of 30. Therefore, I cannot confidently say that gold is deeply oversold based on this indicator alone.

My conclusion is that gold has weakened, but momentum has not yet demonstrated a convincing recovery. Selling the put allows me to collect premium while waiting to see whether the price stabilises.

๐Ÿ’ฐ 4. Why sell a put instead of buying IAU immediately?

I like having a plan before entering a trade. If I buy IAU shares immediately, I participate in any upside but also experience the full price movement from my entry.

When I sell a cash-secured put, I receive premium upfront and establish a potential purchase price. If I am assigned, my effective purchase price would be approximately US$76.61 per share, calculated as the US$77.50 strike minus the US$0.89 premium, excluding fees and other costs.

This is only an effective cost calculation if I retain the full premium. It does not mean I cannot lose money. If IAU falls substantially below US$76.61, the loss on the assigned shares can exceed the premium received.

For me, the key question is simple: Am I willing to own IAU at this price if the market falls further? If the answer is no, I should not sell the put simply because the premium looks attractive.

๐ŸŽฏ 5. What is my plan from here?

My first plan is to monitor the option price and consider buying it back when a meaningful portion of the premium has decayed. I do not need to wait until expiration to close the trade. If the option price falls sufficiently, I can close the position and release my capital for another opportunity.

My second plan is to monitor the US$77โ€“US$78 area. If IAU stabilises and starts recovering, that could improve the technical picture. However, I will look for confirmation rather than buying into every small green candle.

My third plan is to watch US dollar movements, interest-rate expectations and geopolitical developments. These factors can influence gold demand and create sudden volatility. I will also pay attention to whether IAU breaks below its recent support zone.

If IAU falls sharply, I will reassess whether I am still comfortable owning 100 shares at the strike price. I will not automatically sell additional puts just because the premium becomes larger. Higher premiums can reflect higher perceived risk.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ 6. What could make me change my view?

I would become more cautious if IAU breaks below the previous low near US$74.44 with strong selling pressure, particularly if the US dollar strengthens and gold momentum deteriorates.

On the other hand, a sustained recovery above the short-term moving averages, followed by improving RSI readings, could suggest that buying momentum is returning.

I will also consider the time remaining until 30 October. Options lose time value as expiration approaches, all else being equal, but price movements and changes in implied volatility can outweigh that effect. I will not assume that time decay alone guarantees a profit.

๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿพ 7. My Blink Fans takeaway

My IAU put trade is about patience, premium collection and having a plan for a possible assignment. I am not claiming that gold must rebound tomorrow. I am positioning myself to potentially buy exposure at a price I have chosen while collecting premium for accepting the obligation.

For me, the lesson is that a lower price is not automatically a bargain, and a high option premium is not free money. Technical analysis helps me plan, while risk management helps me survive when the market moves against me.

I will keep watching gold, the US dollar, interest-rate expectations and the US$74.44 support area. If the setup changes, I will reassess rather than blindly defend the trade.

Blink Fans philosophy: Trade with a plan, collect premium with discipline, and never let a short-term trade become an unwanted long-term position. ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ“ˆ

74.44 is the real line to me. If that support breaks, assignment is fine, but the next step matters more than theta decay here
