META Earnings: Options Are Crazy Expensive — Three Strategies for the 650 to 745 Range

1. Basics | AI Is a Long-Term Positive, but Compute Is a Short-Term Limit

Meta is expected to report 3Q26 revenue of $63.6B, up 24.2% year over year, with an operating margin of 45.1%. The core ads business stays strong.

Instagram US daily average use rose 13% year over year to 58 minutes.
Muse has over 8.6 million downloads and over 1.9 million daily active users. AI monetization potential is worth watching.
Compute spending keeps climbing. 2027 capex is expected at $209B, up 45% year over year, and free cash flow could turn negative in 2026.

The earnings focus: can ad growth and Muse monetization offset the cash flow pressure from AI spending?

2. Volatility Estimate and Key Levels

META's current IV is 47.66%, with an IV percentile of 92%. That means implied volatility is near historic highs, and options are relatively expensive.

  • This week's implied range: $650–745, expected move about ±6.7%.

  • Core support: $675–680 has heavy Put open interest. If it breaks, watch $660 and then $650.

  • Core resistance: $700–730, especially heavy Call selling near $730. Only a high-volume break would put $745–750 in play.

3. Institutional Big Order Read

① [Seller] META | 2026/10/23 780 Call / [Buyer] 790 Call
4,500 contracts each

This is a Bear Call Spread: sell 780 Call$META 20261023 780.0 CALL$ , buy 790 Call$META 20261023 790.0 CALL$ . It may reflect a view that the stock can't break $780 short term, with the higher-strike Call limiting risk.

Key levels: $730 is the main near-term resistance. $750 is an important breakout watch level. $780 is the key upper level for this spread. If the stock keeps strengthening toward $780, the bearish logic could be challenged.

② [Seller] META | 2026/11/20 575 Put
2,100 contracts | about $808.5K traded

Selling the 575 Put$META 20261120 575.0 PUT$  may mean the trader is willing to buy the stock at a lower price, or wants to collect premium. The strike is far below this week's $650 lower bound, so it looks more like medium-term risk-taking than a short-term bounce bet.

Key levels: $650 is this week's lower bound. If it breaks, watch whether the drop grows. $575 is the medium-term assignment watch level, but it's not a guaranteed bottom.

③ [Seller] META | 2026/11/06 615 Put
1,250 contracts | about $366K traded

Selling the 615 Put$META 20261106 615.0 PUT$  may reflect a view that the risk of falling below $615 is limited, or willingness to buy the stock at that price. But that doesn't mean $615 is confirmed support.

Key levels: If $650 fails, $615 is a medium-term level to watch. If the stock keeps falling, watch whether the sold Put risk grows.

④ [Buyer] META | 2026/12/18 640 Put + 740 Call
2,300 contracts each$META 20261218 640.0 PUT$  $META 20261218 740.0 CALL$  2,300 contracts each

Buying a Put and a Call at different strikes is a Long Strangle, not a straddle at the same strike. This combo may reflect an expectation of a big move, or be used to hedge other positions.

Key levels: $640 and $740 are the two strikes. If the stock later breaks strongly past either end, that side's option value may rise. But you still have to consider premium cost, time to expiry, and IV changes.

Big order read: The short-term 780/790 Call spread shows upside risk is being watched. The November Put sales show willingness to buy at lower prices. The December Long Strangle shows medium-term volatility risk is still on people's minds. These trades have different expiries, so don't treat them as one-directional bets.

4. Three Scenarios and Possible Responses (examples, not investment advice)

Scenario 1: Range-bound ($650–745)
Lean toward collecting premium.
Strategy: Iron Condor

  • Sell 640 Put, buy 630 Put.

  • Sell 760 Call, buy 770 Call.

  • Setup: You expect the stock to stay between $640–760, and volatility to fall after earnings.

Logic: Sell options on both sides to collect premium, and use the bought protection legs to cap max loss. If the stock stays in range, time passes, and IV falls, the strategy may benefit.
Risk: If earnings cause a big gap, the short Put or short Call side can lose fast. Even if the direction call is right, the spread can still struggle if actual moves are bigger than expected.

Scenario 2: Break above $750
Bullish scenario.
Strategy: Bull Call Spread

  • Buy 750 Call.

  • Sell 780 Call.

  • Expiry can be the near month after earnings, or a longer date depending on how long you plan to hold.

Logic: If the stock breaks $750, the move may be bigger than the original implied range. Buy the 750 Call to participate in upside, and sell the 780 Call to lower cost. This fits a view of more upside but not unlimited chasing.
Watch levels: After a $750 break, watch $760–780. $780 is also the sold strike in the known institutional Call spread, so watch for upside pressure.
Risk: If the stock breaks $750 then falls back fast, the spread can lose all premium. If the stock ends up far above $780, gains are still capped. Post-earnings IV drop can also offset some directional gain.

Scenario 3: Break below $650
Bearish scenario.
Strategy: Bear Put Spread

  • Buy 650 Put.

  • Sell 620 Put.

  • Expiry should cover the expected downside window; don't use too short a date.

Logic: A break below $650 means the stock has gone below the original implied range and may enter a weaker zone. Buy the 650 Put to play downside, and sell the 620 Put to lower premium cost. This fits a view of more downside.
Watch levels: After a $650 break, first watch $640, then $620–615. If the drop comes with more volume and volatility, reassess downside risk.
Risk: If the stock breaks $650 then bounces fast, the spread can lose premium. If the drop goes beyond $620, max gain is still capped by the distance between the two strikes.
