AI Concerns Weighed on Equities and Increased Safe Haven Demand like US Treasuries; China Government Bonds To Benefit from Policy Support and Strengthening RMB 【 CSOP SG Weekly 】
【Money Market Fund】
US$ MMF Net 7-day Yield: +3.70%*
During the week, US Treasury yields moved lower across the curve over the past week as concerns around AI-related equities outweighed the impact of higher oil prices, which led to a rise in safe-haven demand.
With the FOMC in its pre-meeting blackout period, markets saw only less than 10% probability of an October rate hike, showcasing broad expectations that Fed remain on hold in October. Looking ahead, attention turns to the 28 October FOMC meeting.

Broadly speaking, S-REITs are beginning its reporting season amid rising interest rates, which will provide insights into how they are managing this challenging macro environment. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that S-REITs are entering this renewed rate hike from a better position that the last rate hike cycle as it is currently still unlocking cost savings from refinancing the expensive 2022-2024 vintage debt.
【Fixed Income】
$ICBC CSOP CGB ETF S$(CYC.SI)$ YTD NAV: +2.68% in CNY; +7.57% in USD^
During the week, China rates received support from expectations of a further evolution in the PBoC’s monetary-policy framework. Governor Pan Gongsheng indicated that the central bank is considering shifting its main policy benchmark from the 7-day reverse repo rate to the overnight rate. In contrast with rising global yields, this pseudo-rate cut in China is expected to lower funding rates and reduced rate volatility. Against this backdrop, coupled with ongoing RMB appreciation, China government bond stands to gain. On the FX front, RMB was trading at 6.67 on Friday.
