SanDisk Beat Everything and Still Fell. I Think the Market Is Sending Memory Investors a Warning.

$SanDisk Corp.(SNDK)$

SanDisk just delivered numbers that would normally send a stock flying.

Revenue:

$11.03B, +23% QoQ

Non-GAAP EPS:

$49.51

Gross margin:

85.1%

Data-center revenue:

$4.8B, +61% QoQ

Adjusted free cash flow:

$5.7B

Then management guided next quarter to:

$12.2B-$12.6B revenue

84.5%-85.5% gross margin

$55-$57 EPS

And announced an 8-for-1 stock split.

Yet SNDK sold off.

Investors are understandably asking:

WHAT MORE DOES THE MARKET WANT?

My answer:

Something very different from six months ago.

🔥 SANDISK'S PROBLEM IS NOT THE BUSINESS

I want to make this distinction immediately.

These numbers do NOT look like the end of a memory cycle.

Revenue grew 23% sequentially.

Data-center grew 61%.

Gross margin expanded.

Next-quarter revenue guidance implies further growth.

And management is still guiding roughly:

85% GROSS MARGIN.

The fundamental machine is working.

So why isn't the stock?

Because the market has moved from:

“Is the memory supercycle real?”

to:

“HOW MUCH OF THE SUPERCYCLE IS ALREADY IN THE PRICE?”

That is a much harder question.

🧠 SNDK HAS ENTERED THE PERFECTION ZONE

When a stock has already produced an extraordinary run, “excellent” stops being enough.

The market begins demanding:

beat

raise

accelerating demand

higher margins

no supply concerns

evidence it lasts.

SanDisk delivered most of that.

The stock still struggled.

That tells me:

THE EXPECTATION BAR HAS MOVED FASTER THAN THE BUSINESS.

This is important for MU investors too.

Micron can report fantastic numbers and still fall.

SK Hynix can report fantastic numbers and still fall.

Samsung can produce record profits and disappoint.

This does NOT automatically mean memory demand is breaking.

It means:

GOOD NEWS HAS BECOME THE BASE CASE.

🔥 BUT I FOUND SOMETHING MORE INTERESTING INSIDE SANDISK'S NUMBERS

Look at the revenue mix.

Data center:

$4.8B, +61% QoQ

Edge:

$5.83B, +7%

Consumer:

$397M, -29%

That is remarkable.

Consumer is shrinking while the company overall is exploding.

Which means this is increasingly NOT a traditional consumer-storage story.

AI infrastructure is becoming the growth engine.

Data center now represents roughly:

44% OF TOTAL REVENUE.

One quarter earlier it was roughly one-third.

That is a very rapid mix shift.

And it changes how I value the memory cycle.

🧠 THE OLD NAND CYCLE IS BEING REWIRED

Historically NAND investors worried about:

PCs

smartphones

consumer SSDs

inventory

oversupply.

Those cycles still matter.

But AI introduces a different demand source:

DATA CREATION.

AI models need training data.

Inference generates data.

Agents generate more data.

Enterprises retain more data.

Data centres need increasingly sophisticated storage.

So the AI infrastructure chain is broadening:

GPU

↓

HBM

↓

SERVER DRAM

↓

NETWORKING

↓

ENTERPRISE SSD

↓

NAND

That is why SanDisk's 61% data-center growth matters to me beyond SNDK itself.

It is another cross-check on the broader memory thesis.

🔥 THIS ACTUALLY MAKES ME MORE COMFORTABLE WITH MU

Micron just suffered a painful selloff.

The fear is that hyperscaler AI spending eventually slows and takes memory demand with it.

But SanDisk just gave us evidence from another part of the stack.

Data-center storage is accelerating dramatically.

That means AI demand is not confined to:

HBM.

It is propagating through the infrastructure stack.

That is bullish for my broader memory thesis.

But there is an important warning.

🚨 GREAT FUNDAMENTALS NO LONGER GUARANTEE GREAT STOCK RETURNS

This is the lesson investors cannot ignore.

The memory trade has matured.

Stage one was:

fundamentals improve

↓

analysts underestimate earnings

↓

estimates rise

↓

stocks explode.

We are entering stage two:

fundamentals remain extraordinary

↓

everyone knows they are extraordinary

↓

expectations become enormous

↓

even beats can disappoint.

This is where stock selection and entry price become much more important.

🔵 THE MOST IMPORTANT NUMBER MAY ACTUALLY BE 85%

An 85% gross margin in NAND is extraordinary.

But the question is no longer whether SanDisk can produce an 85% margin for one quarter.

The market wants to know:

HOW LONG CAN IT LAST?

That depends on three things.

🟢 DEMAND DISCIPLINE

Does AI storage demand continue absorbing capacity?

🟢 SUPPLY DISCIPLINE

Do NAND producers resist the temptation to flood the market with supply?

🟢 CONTRACT DISCIPLINE

Do long-term customer agreements keep pricing and volumes rational?

If those remain intact, this cycle can stay stronger for longer than historical NAND cycles.

But if supply starts chasing today's extraordinary margins?

That is when I become cautious.

Because:

85% MARGINS ATTRACT SUPPLY.

Eventually they always do.

🔥 THIS IS THE REAL RISK TO THE MEMORY SUPERCYCLE

Not Thursday's SNDK price drop.

Not one red MU session.

Not investors taking profits.

The risk is:

HIGH PRICES

↓

HIGH MARGINS

↓

MORE CAPACITY

↓

MORE SUPPLY

↓

INVENTORY NORMALISES

↓

PRICING WEAKENS

↓

MARGINS FALL.

That is the classic memory cycle.

AI may lengthen the cycle.

Customer agreements may stabilise it.

Technology complexity may reduce supply responsiveness.

But none of those abolish economics.

So my memory thesis remains bullish.

Just not blindly bullish.

🧠 THE SIGNAL I WOULD WATCH BEFORE THE STOCK PRICE

For SNDK:

GROSS MARGIN GUIDANCE.

Today:

84.5%-85.5%

for next quarter.

As long as that remains near these extraordinary levels while data-center demand grows, the business thesis remains powerful.

If future guidance becomes:

82%

then:

78%

then:

low 70s

I would pay attention very quickly.

Because the stock will probably smell the margin peak before investors see it clearly in earnings.

📍 MY SNDK FRAMEWORK NOW

I am not chasing SNDK simply because earnings were fantastic.

After a huge run, entry price matters.

My framework is:

🟢 FUNDAMENTALS: STRONG

Data-center growth is exceptional.

🟢 DEMAND: STRONG

AI storage is broadening.

🟢 MARGINS: EXCEPTIONAL

85% remains extraordinary.

🟡 VALUATION/EXPECTATIONS: HIGH

This is now the biggest risk.

🟡 PRICE ACTION: CAUTION

A stock falling after numbers this strong tells me positioning is crowded.

So my approach is:

DO NOT CHASE STRENGTH. ACCUMULATE FEAR WHILE THE FUNDAMENTALS REMAIN INTACT.

That is exactly how I am thinking about MU too.

🔮 MY MEMORY SUPERCYCLE SCORECARD

After SNDK earnings:

HBM DEMAND

🟢

DATA-CENTER NAND

🟢

SERVER MEMORY

🟢

MEMORY PRICING

🟢

MARGINS

🟢

HYPERSCALER CAPEX

🟢

STOCK MOMENTUM

🔴

That contradiction is uncomfortable.

But it is extremely important.

Because investors need to determine which side eventually converges.

Do fundamentals fall toward the stocks?

Or do stocks eventually recover toward the fundamentals?

Today, my base case remains:

THE STOCKS ARE CORRECTING FASTER THAN THE MEMORY THESIS.

MY CALL

SanDisk's selloff does not make me bearish on memory.

It makes me more selective.

Because we have entered the hardest stage of a bull cycle:

EVERYONE KNOWS THE STORY.

SNDK no longer needs good earnings.

It needs earnings better than already extraordinary expectations.

MU faces the same problem.

That means I would stop asking:

“Did earnings beat?”

And start asking:

“DID THE EARNINGS POWER IMPROVE FASTER THAN THE EXPECTATION EMBEDDED IN THE STOCK?”

For SanDisk, the answer this quarter is fascinating.

The stock says:

not enough.

But the business says:

data-center +61%.

gross margin 85.1%.

next-quarter revenue up again.

EPS heading toward $55-$57.

Those do not look like peak-cycle fundamentals yet.

So I am watching one thing above everything else:

WHEN DOES MARGIN STOP HOLDING?

Until that happens, I see this memory selloff as an expectations reset more than evidence that the supercycle has ended.

But from here?

I buy fear.

Not perfection.

I am not a financial advisor. Trade wisely, Comrades!

Memory investors: is SNDK falling after these numbers a warning that the cycle has peaked, or an opportunity created by expectations getting ahead of themselves?

85% gross margin already prices in near-perfect execution. Does your model assume data-center keeps compounding at anything close to 61% QoQ?

Data-center up 61% and margin still around 85% does not scream peak cycle to me. Feels more like expectations got way ahead of a still-running memory story
