AAPL Earnings | Watch for a Short-Term Spike
1. Expected Move Pricing
The options market is pricing Apple's expected move this week at ±4.74%, a range of about $328–361. Current IV is 31.47%, with an IV percentile of 88.45%, meaning options are relatively expensive before earnings.
Key trading levels: $355–361 is major upside resistance. $342 is the short-term bull/bear line. $328–330 is key downside support. If the stock breaks outside the expected range after earnings, the actual move was bigger than options had priced.
2. Gamma Analysis
AAPL is at $344, slightly above the Gamma flip point of $342.2. Net GEX is about +$17.9M / 1%, still in positive Gamma territory, which normally helps soften short-term swings, but it's very close to the flip point.
On the upside, $350 is max pain, and $355 is the main Call wall. After a break above that, watch $360–362.5. On the downside, $340 is the key Put Gamma zone. If it breaks below $342.2, hedging trades could amplify swings, and the next support is $330.
Recently, Put open interest has grown more than Call open interest, showing more demand for downside protection. But position changes alone can't tell you the direction.
3. Big Options Order Analysis
Money is split: long-term buyers are bullish, short-term sellers lean defensive, mainly betting the stock can't break much above resistance after earnings.
[Buyer] AAPL | 2027/01/15 380 Call$AAPL 20270115 380.0 CALL$
15,000 contracts | $7.5M traded | stock at $347.03
Buyers paid about $7.5M in premium for long-term out-of-the-money Calls, showing some money is willing to risk the premium to bet on more upside.
**Key level:** $380 is the long-term strike, not a short-term target. Breakeven at expiry is about $385.
[Seller] AAPL | 2026/11/04 362.5 Call$AAPL 20261104 362.5 CALL$
9,999 contracts | about $1.7298M traded | stock at $346.82
Selling short-term Calls before earnings may reflect a view that the stock can't break $362.5, hoping to profit from post-earnings IV drop and time decay.
**Key level:** $362.5 is near the top of the expected range. A strong post-earnings breakout could quickly raise risk for sellers.
[Seller Combo] AAPL | 2026/11/06 Bear Call Spread
Sell 357.5 Call$AAPL 20261106 357.5 CALL$ | Buy 362.5 Call $AAPL 20261106 362.5 CALL$
1,010 contracts each | stock at $347.04
Net premium collected is about $1.44 per share. This is a Bear Call Spread, showing a neutral-to-mildly-bearish view, with the higher-strike Call limiting risk.
Based on the trade prices:
-
Max profit: $144 per spread
-
Max loss: $356 per spread
-
Breakeven at expiry: $358.94
Key levels: $357.5–362.5 is the short-term seller defense zone. If the stock breaks above this after earnings, the spread will face more pressure.
These big orders only show observable trade structures. We can't confirm the trader's full position or hedging intent. Repeated combo legs shouldn't be counted as separate trades.
4. Basics Analysis
Apple's fiscal Q3 2026 revenue is expected at about $109.4B, up 16% year over year. EPS is expected at $2.02, or about $1.91 after excluding tariff refund effects. Revenue is slightly above consensus.
Beyond the main results, watch three things:
iPhone and Mac demand: Product sales are strong. Can demand keep up? That's key to growth momentum.
Services growth: Services revenue missed expectations, but margins are still high. Watch subscription, app ecosystem, and recurring revenue growth.
Gross margin and tariffs: Overall gross margin hit 50.1%, better than expected. But separate supply chain efficiency gains from one-time items like tariff refunds.
5. Three Post-Earnings Scenarios and Possible Responses
These strikes are teaching examples based on the current expected range, Gamma levels, and big orders — not live tradeable quotes. All strategies need to be rechecked after earnings for premium, expiration, and max risk.
Scenario 1: Range-bound, $328–361
If earnings meet expectations and the stock stays in the expected range, IV falling from high levels could help seller strategies through lower volatility and time decay.
Example strategy: Iron Condor
-
Sell 325 Put, buy 320 Put
-
Sell 365 Call, buy 370 Call
Both sides have protection legs. Collect net premium. This fits a post-earnings price convergence view.
Another example: Bull Put Spread
-
Sell 325 Put, buy 320 Put
-
Fits a view that the stock holds above $328–330 support.
Risk: An earnings gap outside the range, or a sustained one-way move, can push the spread toward max loss. Falling IV doesn't guarantee a profit.
Scenario 2: Strong break above $361
If earnings and guidance clearly beat, and the stock breaks $361 and holds $362.5, the move is bigger than originally priced. Short Call sellers may face covering pressure.
Example strategy: Bull Call Spread
-
Buy 360 Call, sell 370 Call
-
Fits a view that upside continues after a break above $362.5.
Selling the higher-strike Call lowers net cost and caps both max gain and max loss.
Another example: Bull Put Spread
-
Sell 350 Put, buy 345 Put
-
Fits a scenario where the stock breaks out, pulls back near $355, and support is confirmed.
Risk: A false breakout, post-earnings IV crush, or paying up for the trade can all cause losses. If the stock falls fast, the Put spread also carries risk.
Scenario 3: Break below $328
If guidance disappoints, the stock breaks the $342.2 Gamma flip, then loses $330–328, the drop is bigger than the market priced. Watch $320 and $310.
Example strategy: Bear Put Spread
-
Buy 330 Put, sell 320 Put
-
Fits a view that downside continues after a break below $328.
Buying the Put captures downside; selling the lower-strike Put lowers cost. Max loss is limited to net premium paid.
Another example: Bear Call Spread
-
Sell 340 Call, buy 345 Call
-
Fits a scenario where the stock breaks support, bounces, but can't get back above $340.
Risk: A fast rebound after a sharp drop can hurt bearish strategies. Post-earnings IV drop can also offset some of the bought Put's directional gain.
6. Final Take
Before earnings, AAPL is at $344. The options market expects a $328–361 range this week, and IV percentile is 88.45%, meaning the market has already paid a high premium for earnings uncertainty.
Short-term big orders lean toward selling upside Calls, showing money is guarding against $357.5–362.5 resistance. Long-term money still has bullish positions.
After earnings, the key level is the $342.2 Gamma flip. If it holds, watch $350–355. A break above $361 signals stronger upside. A break below $328 means watch for a bigger drop.
