[Stock Prediction] Google's AI Business Is Booming. Will the Stock Follow?

Google's AI business is gaining momentum. Cloud demand is growing, Gemini is becoming a bigger part of Search, and Alphabet is investing heavily to stay ahead in the AI race. But strong growth doesn't always translate into a higher stock price.

With Alphabet set to report third-quarter earnings on October 28 after the bell, investors want to know whether its AI investments are finally delivering the returns Wall Street expects. Can Google turn its AI momentum into another earnings-driven rally? Or is the good news already priced in?

According to Bloomberg BEST consensus estimates, analysts expect Alphabet to report $111.24 billion in revenue, adjusted earnings of $3.32 per share, and adjusted net income of $38.22 billion. Alphabet has beaten revenue expectations in seven of its last eight quarters. $Alphabet(GOOG)$ $Alphabet(GOOGL)$

Three Things to Watch

1. Google Cloud: How much growth is left?

AI demand is driving investment in cloud computing, data centers and custom chips. Google Cloud has emerged as one of Alphabet's biggest growth engines. Google Cloud revenue jumped 82% to $24.8 billion last quarter, while operating profit more than tripled to $8.8 billion.

Now, analysts expect another acceleration. Visible Alpha estimates Q3 cloud revenue of approximately $29.15 billion, nearly double the year-earlier level.Investors will be watching whether cloud revenue can beat expectations again, and whether higher demand is translating into stronger profits.

2. Search: Can Gemini make Google more money?

Google Search and related advertising revenue rose 17% to $63.3 billion last quarter, while YouTube advertising revenue climbed 13% to $11.1 billion.

As Gemini and AI-powered answers become more prominent in Search, investors will be looking for evidence that Google's core advertising business can keep growing despite competition from ChatGPT and other AI tools.

3. AI Spending: Is the payoff worth the price?

Alphabet raised its 2026 capital expenditure outlook to $195 billion–$205 billion, up from its previous forecast of $180 billion–$190 billion.

Last quarter alone, the company spent $44.9 billion on capital expenditures, exceeding its $39.1 billion in operating cash flow. Free cash flow came in at negative $5.9 billion.

Meanwhile, Visible Alpha expects Google Cloud's Q3 operating margin to reach approximately 33.5%. If cloud growth beats expectations but margins weaken or spending rises again, investors may have second thoughts about the stock.

🌟🌟🌟I believe $Alphabet(GOOG)$ will close between -5% to +5% (C) on the first day of trading after earnings.  Why?  There is currently a tug of war between its robust revenue growth and unprecedented capital expenditure.

Alphabet is expected to post a highly impressive USD 127.4 billion to USD 127.9 billion in revenue, up 25% YoY.  This is driven by an estimated 80% hypergrowth in Google Cloud and robust AI assisted search monetisation.

However Wall Street is hyper focused on Alphabet's full year 2026 Capex budget of USD 195 billion to USD 205 billion.

If Alphabet beats revenue expectations, but guides Capex even higher for 2027, I believe the market will penalise Alphabet over fears of compressed operating margins and another quarter of negative free cash flow.

Alphabet is currently trading at just 15.7x forward earnings.  It's time to go bargain hunting if Alphabet drops below 5%.

    My vote: B, up 5%–10%. 📈

Google Cloud is the number I’d watch most closely. If revenue approaches or beats the expected US$29B while margins remain around the 30%+ range, that would be strong evidence that Alphabet is not merely spending heavily on AI but successfully monetising the demand.

Search is the second test. Gemini does not need to replace traditional Search economics. It needs to strengthen engagement without damaging advertising monetisation.

The concern is the enormous US$195–205B capex plan and recent negative free cash flow. At this valuation, simply beating EPS may not be enough. Wall Street will want evidence that AI revenue is catching up with AI spending.

I’d therefore wait until after earnings rather than buy immediately beforehand. A strong report with a weak stock reaction could actually provide the more interesting entry. 🐯

Base case: a modest EPS beat looks more likely than a miss, but conviction is only moderate.
    Alphabet (GOOGL)
    watchlist
reports after the US close on 2026-10-28 , and the verified consensus is $3.018 EPS on $128.18 billion revenue .

    Why the setup leans positive:

Strong underlying growth is still embedded in expectations. Consensus implies revenue growth of 25.24% YoY and EBIT growth of 24.64% YoY ; EPS consensus is 5.89% above 2026Q2’s actual $2.85.
Alphabet exceeded EPS consensus in 6 of the past 8 quarters (75%) . However, the two most recent quarters both missed EPS slightly: by $0.006 in 2026Q1 and $0.043 in 2026Q2. This reduces confidence that its historical beat pattern alone will repeat.
The latest reported quarter showed operating momentum: 2026Q2 revenue rose 24.23% YoY to $119.80 billion , operating income increased 30.38% YoY to $40.77 billion , and net income rose 22.39% YoY to $39.75 billion . That provides a favourable base for the expected Q3 revenue acceleration.

I am cautiously bullish on Alphabet $Alphabet(GOOGL)$ heading into earnings. Google Cloud is a major growth engine, while Gemini offers opportunities to strengthen Search and advertising. Alphabet has a strong competitive advantage through its user base, AI capabilities, and infrastructure.

My prediction is C: Between -5% and +5% on the first trading day after earnings. Even if results beat expectations, investors may worry about massive AI spending and whether it can deliver sustainable returns. With expectations already high, a strong report may not be enough to trigger a major rally.

Personally, I would wait for the earnings results rather than chase GOOGL beforehand. I remain bullish on its long-term AI potential, but risk management matters. For me, growth is only valuable when it translates into stronger cash flow and sustainable shareholder returns.
