Mid-Year Investing 2026: What Did You Miss in H1, and What’s on Your H2 Watchlist?

2026 is already halfway through, and the first half of the year has given investors plenty to talk about.

AI remained one of the most important market themes, but the story kept expanding. It was no longer just about GPUs or mega-cap tech.

Some stocks kept breaking new highs. Some names suddenly became market favorites after earnings. Some themes looked speculative at first, but continued to attract attention. And for many investors, H1 2026 probably came with at least one familiar feeling:

“I saw it… but I didn’t buy it.”

Maybe you watched an AI stock rally again and again.
Maybe you hesitated before a semiconductor earnings report.
Maybe you thought a nuclear or power stock had already gone too far.
Maybe you sold too early and had to watch the stock keep climbing without you.

At the same time, the second half of the year is just beginning. The bigger question now is not only what we missed in H1, but also what we are preparing to watch in H2.

So for this Mid-Year Investing Series, we want to ask two questions:

1. Which stock do you regret not buying in H1 2026?
2. What stocks, ETFs, or sectors are on your H2 2026 watchlist?

Your missed opportunity could be a mega-cap name you underestimated, such as $NVDA, $MSFT, $AAPL, $GOOG, $AMZN, $META or $TSLA.

It could be an AI or semiconductor stock like $Micron Technology(MU)$, $SanDisk Corp.(SNDK)$, $Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing(TSM)$, $ARM Holdings(ARM)$, $Marvell Technology(MRVL)$ or $Broadcom(AVGO)$.

It could be a nuclear, power, or energy infrastructure name like $SMR, $OKLO, $CEG or $VST, especially as AI data centers continue to drive discussions around electricity demand.

Or it could be a high-volatility name from crypto, quantum computing, robotics, small caps, or any other theme that surprised you in the first half of the year.

For H2, your watchlist does not have to be a list of stocks you are buying immediately. It can simply be the names, ETFs, or sectors you want to follow more closely. Maybe you are still bullish on AI. Maybe you are watching for a pullback in semiconductors. Maybe you think nuclear and power infrastructure will become a longer-term theme. Maybe you prefer ETFs like $QQQ, $SMH, $SOXX, $XLK, $URA, $GLD or $IBIT instead of single stocks.

My H1 Missed Opportunity

  • When I first noticed it:

  • Why I didn’t buy:

  • What happened after that:

  • Would I still buy it in H2 2026?

My H2 2026 Watchlist

  • Top stock pick for H2:

  • Backup stock or ETF:

  • Sector I’m watching:

  • Biggest risk in H2:

  • My strategy: Buy now / Wait for pullback / DCA / Options / Just watching

Example

My H1 missed opportunity is $MU.
I noticed it when memory and HBM demand started appearing more often in AI-related discussions, but I hesitated because the stock had already moved a lot. After that, the market continued to focus on AI memory demand. My lesson from H1 is that when a theme is supported by earnings momentum, waiting for the perfect entry can sometimes mean missing the trade completely.

For H2, my watchlist includes $NVDA, $MU and $SMH.
AI is still my main theme, but I am watching whether the trade continues to expand from GPUs to memory, networking, and infrastructure. My biggest concern is valuation. If earnings cannot keep up with expectations, the sector could become very volatile. My current strategy is to wait for pullbacks instead of chasing every breakout.

Another Example

I regret not buying $SMR earlier.
Nuclear energy became one of the most discussed themes as AI data centers increased expectations for future power demand. At first, I thought the rally was too speculative, but the theme kept gaining attention. I may not chase at current levels, but I will continue watching nuclear and power infrastructure names in H2.

My H2 watchlist includes $SMR, $OKLO and $CEG.
I am watching the power and nuclear theme because AI growth may create long-term demand for electricity infrastructure. The biggest risk is that some stocks may be moving faster than their fundamentals. My strategy is to keep them on watch and wait for better entry points.

My biggest H1 missed opportunity was $SanDisk Corp.(SNDK)$ . I noticed it early when the AI storage theme gained momentum, but I thought the stock was already overhyped and decided to wait for a pullback instead of chasing it.

The pullback never came. Instead, SNDK rallied another 300%. It reminded me that strong AI themes can stay stronger for longer than expected. Even so, I won't be buying SNDK in H2 after such a huge move. I'd rather look for the next opportunity than chase yesterday's winner.

For H2, my top watchlist pick is $Corning(GLW)$ , with $ServiceNow(NOW)$ as my backup. I'm also watching software leaders like ServiceNow and $Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ . My biggest concern is a broad market pullback after the strong H1 rally, so I'll stay patient, wait for better entries, and continue to DCA into quality names.

Q1. Which stock do you regret not buying in H1 2026?

My primary regret is not accumulating even more stocks and ETFs tied to the US, South Korea, China, and Japan, as their valuations in 2026 remain highly attractive.

Furthermore, despite the strong overall growth of the market, equities in Singapore and Taiwan still present compelling value propositions when compared to their long-term growth trajectories in 2026.

    $Space Exploration Technologies Corp(SPCX)$ $iShares MSCI South Korea ETF(EWY)$ $Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund(XLK)$ $iShares Asia/Pacific Dividend ETF(DVYA)$

Q2. What stocks, ETFs, or sectors are on your H2 2026 watchlist?

The following distressed assets are on my watchlist for H2 2026 as unique case studies in corporate restructuring and governance:

EC World REIT (SGX: BWCU): Monitoring this closely following ongoing trading suspensions, its failure to secure extensions for offshore interest reserves, and a major court ruling holding a subsidiary liable for a massive billion guarantee. The outcomes of its asset divestment and restructuring proposals remain critical.

Eagle Hospitality Trust (SGX: LIW): It is undergoing formal delisting and termination following a high-profile corporate collapse and severe financial engineering. The ongoing regulatory fallout and legal challenges involving the former management offer significant lessons in investor risk.

    $EC World Reit(BWCU.SI)$
    $Eagle HTrust USD(LIW.SI)$

🌟🌟🌟H1 felt like watching everyone feast at the AI buffet while I sat there nibbling on a bread roll.  My biggest miss is $Roundhill Memory ETF(DRAM)$ .

DRAM is a pure play memory ETF giving exposure to the companies producing the most critical bottleneck of AI: HBM, DRAM, NAND & storage devices.

It is 100% memory, the part of AI infrastructure that is exploding in demand.

DRAM ETF is  concentrated with  its 3 top holdings $Micron Technology(MU)$ Samsung Electronics & SK Hynix.

But hey markets are generous.  They always give me a 2nd chance.

H2 is my redemption arc.  Top of my list is $SK hynix(SKHY)$ IPO on Nasdaq - July 10.  This is a global spotlight moment.  HBM demand is still insane & SKHynix is    tapping into this demand.

Then there are the 3 Singapore banks: $DBS(D05.SI)$ & UOB.  They are my dividend kings.  Not moonshots but they provide me with great dividends.

H2 brings more exciting opportunities to make money.

Q2. What stocks, ETFs, or sectors are on your H2 2026 watchlist?

In addition to EC World REIT (SGX: BWCU) and Eagle Hospitality Trust (SGX: LIW) on my watchlist from my previous post, I am also monitoring cryptocurrency-related ETFs.

ETFs holding digital assets like Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) are firmly on my radar. Following significant drawdowns over the past 12 months, where Bitcoin fell about 33% and Ethereum dropped roughly 47% from their mid-year values, current valuations are looking highly attractive.

With major institutional backing driving mainstream adoption, I believe that by the end of 2026, prices will strongly recover, making these cheaper current levels an excellent long-term accumulation opportunity.

    $iShares Bitcoin Trust(IBIT)$
    $iShares Ethereum Trust ETF(ETHA)$
$ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF(BETH)$
    $EC World Reit(BWCU.SI)$
    $Eagle HTrust USD(LIW.SI)$

    My H1 Missed Opportunity

Stock I regret not buying: $NVDA

When I first noticed it: AI demand kept accelerating.

Why I didn't buy: I thought the valuation was too high and waited for a pullback.

What happened after that: NVIDIA continued delivering strong earnings, and the stock kept climbing. It reminded me that great companies can stay expensive for longer than expected.

Would I still buy it in H2 2026? Yes, through dollar-cost averaging.

    My H2 2026 Watchlist

    Top stock pick: $NVDA

    Backup ETF: $Vanguard S&P 500 ETF(VOO)$

Sector I'm watching: AI infrastructure and semiconductors.

Biggest risk: High valuations and the possibility of earnings not meeting lofty expectations.

My strategy: DCA. My biggest lesson from H1 is that waiting for the perfect entry often means missing quality companies. I'd rather build positions over time than try to time the market perfectly.

  • Never regret as market momentum means there’s always opportunities elsewhere if you look hard enough. Chasing is too thrilling and heart pounding; I want to be able to sleep well at night.

For a balanced AI watchlist, the names I'd keep closest tabs on are:
    1.Nvidia (AI chips)
    2.Microsoft (AI software + cloud)
3.Broadcom (AI networking + custom silicon)
    4.AMD (potential market-share gains)
    5.Micron (AI memory demand)
These cover the main parts of the AI value chain rather than relying on a single winner.
Not investment advice—just a framework for research and watchlisting.

I regret not trusting my instincts and buying into SEAGATE  earlier and waiting to long to buy. I mean im new so it's all learning curve ive started following the news and actually researching the companies and have turned around my portfolio.  unsure of what H2 has in store for me but ill make a decision soon and hopefully get in early on whatever stocks I buy  and get better at trading as I go.

I regret never buy $Advanced Micro Devices(AMD)$ and $Intel(INTC)$ in H1. Even worst that I sold them early in Jan 2026. My H2 watch list will be $SpaceX(SPCX)$ . I keep on selling put option to earn premium and till it got exercise. Then, I will hold on the shares.

H1 2026 saw AI-related and big tech stocks rally after rally and ATH again and again. Definitely missed many opportunities but no regrets as too much risks involved. Expect H2 2026 more challenging with high valuations spark bubble concerns. Review risk diversification.
