Tesla Earnings: The Quarter Matters, but What Comes Next Matters Much More

Tonight's earnings arrive at an interesting moment.

Tesla is around $353, while Meta is around $704. Both are AI stories, but the market is asking completely different questions.

For Meta:

Is AI generating enough advertising revenue to justify enormous capex?

For Tesla:

Can autonomy, Robotaxi and robotics eventually become large enough to justify a valuation that already looks far beyond a conventional automaker?

For me, Tesla is the more fascinating setup because tonight's EPS is almost secondary to what management says about 2027.

🔵 TESLA: I AM WATCHING 4 THINGS

1. Automotive margins

This is still the foundation.

Consensus expectations around $0.45 EPS and $28B revenue matter, but I care more about whether automotive economics are stabilising.

Tesla can talk about robots and autonomy all night, but deterioration in the core business makes funding that future harder.

2. Robotaxi and autonomy

This is potentially the biggest valuation driver.

I want evidence of scale, not another demonstration.

Watch for expansion plans, fleet growth, regulatory progress and any indication of when autonomous operations can become economically meaningful.

The transition I want to see is:

Technology → Deployment → Scale → Revenue → Profit

Tesla has spent years proving the first part.

The market increasingly needs the rest.

3. Cybercab

Cybercab could eventually change Tesla's economics completely.

A successful purpose-built autonomous vehicle means Tesla is no longer selling only cars.

It potentially monetises miles travelled.

That is why updates on production timing and commercial deployment could move the stock more than a small EPS beat.

4. Optimus

Optimus remains the biggest optionality and probably the hardest to value.

I would not assign enormous near-term earnings to it yet.

But credible evidence of factory deployment and improving economics could cause investors to start assigning it a much larger future value.

🚦 MY TSLA LEVELS AFTER EARNINGS

At approximately $353:

🟡 $340-$355: HOLD / SMALL FIRST PICK

I would not chase aggressively before earnings.

🟢 $310-$330: PREFERRED PICK

This becomes interesting if the earnings reaction is negative but autonomy milestones remain intact.

🟢 $280-$300: STRONG PICK

At this level I would become substantially more interested, assuming the long-term thesis has not changed.

🟡 $375-$385: FIRST CONFIRMATION

🟢 Above $400: BULLISH BREAKOUT

Then I would watch $425-$450.

If autonomy progress materially accelerates, $500 becomes possible in 2027, but I would not make that my base case yet.

🔴 Below $280: THESIS CHECK

🔵 MY POST-EARNINGS SCENARIOS

🟡 50% BASE CASE: $330-$385

Results are mixed. Automotive margins remain under scrutiny, but autonomy commentary keeps investors interested.

Tesla stays volatile without establishing a new trend.

🟢 30% BULL CASE: $385-$425

Margins surprise positively AND management provides credible evidence that Robotaxi/Cybercab deployment is accelerating.

Above $400, momentum could become powerful.

🔴 20% BEAR CASE: $290-$330

Margins disappoint, deliveries remain challenging or autonomy timelines sound more aspirational than operational.

I would not automatically treat that as a broken thesis.

I would first ask why Tesla fell.

🔮 MY TESLA 2027 FRAMEWORK

I see three increasingly different Teslas.

Tesla 1: EV manufacturer.

This business probably does not justify the most aggressive valuation assumptions by itself.

Tesla 2: Energy + autonomous mobility platform.

This is where things become much more interesting.

Tesla 3: AI + robotics company.

If Robotaxi scales and Optimus becomes commercially useful, Tesla's addressable market becomes dramatically larger.

That creates enormous upside.

But investors should recognise what they are paying for.

At $350+, you are already paying partly for Tesla 2 and Tesla 3 before their economics are fully proven.

That is why execution matters so much.

🟢 AND META?

Meta may actually be the cleaner earnings trade.

Its AI story is already monetising.

Better recommendations increase engagement. Better targeting improves advertising returns. More effective ads attract more spending.

That gives Meta something Tesla does not yet have across autonomy and robotics:

A visible AI-to-cash-flow loop.

Around $704, I would watch $680-$700 first.

My preferred accumulation zone remains around $640-$670.

A strong report and convincing AI monetisation commentary could push META through $730, opening a path toward $760-$780.

The risk is capex.

Investors will tolerate enormous AI expenditure while advertising growth demonstrates a return. If spending accelerates faster than monetisation, sentiment could change quickly.

MY CALL

For tonight:

META has the cleaner fundamental setup.

TSLA has the larger expectations gap and potentially the more explosive reaction.

For Tesla, I care less about whether EPS beats consensus by a few cents than whether management can convince me that 2027 will be the year autonomy starts moving from promise to economics.

My key TSLA number is $400.

Below it, I see a stock still proving its next chapter.

Above it after strong earnings and credible autonomy progress, I would start treating $425-$450 as the next battlefield.

Tesla does not need to prove tonight that Optimus will change the world.

It needs to prove something simpler:

The future businesses investors are already paying for are getting closer to producing real revenue.

I am not a financial advisor. Trade wisely, Comrades!

Tonight, which would you rather hold through earnings: TSLA or META?

TSLA. I care more about the training stack than the headline EPS — if their AI infra is really compounding, that makes the 2027 autonomy timeline a lot more believable

  • 2027 guidance is the whole game for me. If they still can't quantify autonomy economics, Tesla over 400 feels ahead of itself
