Wall Street Retreats as AI Capital Expenditure Concerns and Tech Sell-Off Weigh on Markets

U.S. stock indexes closed lower on October 29, 2026, pressured by a historic sell-off in $Alphabet(GOOGL)$ shares and ongoing investor anxieties regarding heavy artificial intelligence (AI) capital expenditures. In this article we would like to share the detailed index performance metrics, sector breakdowns, individual Big Tech movements, yield and commodity reactions, and macro forward-looking analysis. 1. Major Index Performance Overview United States equity markets experienced broad-based selling pressure during Thursday's trading session, with key benchmark indexes recording significant losses. High-valuation growth sectors led the market lower, reflecting growing investor impatience with long payback horizons on corporate AI investments. 2.

$SFM 20261120 45.0 PUT$ Sprouts Farmers Market (SFM) watchlist : sharp reset, but fundamentals now need to stabilise Conditional view: SFM looks materially cheaper after its post-earnings collapse, but it remains a “prove it” situation rather than a clear recovery setup. The valuation has reset sharply; however, the reset followed weaker Q3 results and a significant FY2026 guidance cut, while revenue and profit growth had already slowed markedly. SPX TOP 15 Earnings Rally: CVNA +15.68% — Which Winners Can Keep Running?

Hey Tigers!🐯 A 15.68% jump in Carvana and double-digit gains in cruise lines and defence stocks make a lively earnings leaderboard. But the biggest one-day winner is not automatically the strongest next-quarter opportunity. My take: L3Harris, Lilly and NXP deserve the closest fundamental follow-up. Carvana offers stronger growth momentum with greater price risk. Norwegian, Chipotle and MGM still need to prove that operating improvement can turn into durable earnings. 1 | When Did the Earnings Actually Arrive? Data as Oct29th 2026, Source Tiger Brokers. For TSCO and TPR, a specific independent catalyst for the October 29 advance was not established. For IR, the fresh release belongs to the after-close information set. My filter: first identify the catalyst; then separate repeatable operatin
SPX TOP 15 Earnings Rally: CVNA +15.68% — Which Winners Can Keep Running?
TOPKentzw: I would back $LHX for the next quarter. CVNA has impressive volume growth and LLY continues to benefit from strong weight-loss drug demand, but LHX offers something particularly attractive: long-term revenue visibility. Its Q3 backlog reached a record $53.2 billion, up 47% year-on-year, with a 3.2x book-to-bill ratio. Free cash flow also increased 195% to $1.3 billion, giving the growth story more financial support. I would consider buying a pullback after the earnings rally, rather than chasing the initial price reaction. My key trigger would be backlog conversion into revenue and free cash flow. A large backlog is encouraging, but it only creates shareholder value if contracts translate into profitable delivery. For me, the combination of strong order growth, improving cash generation and raised earnings guidance makes LHX the most convincing of the three right now.

Holding Fast Through The Storm: Why I Am Not Letting Alphabet's USD500 Billion Crash Shake Me Out

🌟🌟🌟Watching $Alphabet(GOOGL)$  $Alphabet(GOOG)$  stock chart over the last 24 hours wasn't just painful.  It was historically brutal.  In its worst single day crash in its 22 year history as a public company, Alphabet's shares plummeted by a staggering 12.6% down to USD 283.82.  In a matter of hours, a mind numbing USD 480 billion to USD 500 billion in market value evaporated into thin air.  It is the second largest single day market cap destruction in the history of Wall Street. As an individual investor, it is easy to feel hyper exposed in moments like this.  When a company is aggressively reshaping its ent

Cloud Doubles, Cash Flow Turns Negative: Is Alphabet Spending Too Much on the AI Race?

$Alphabet(GOOG)$  latest quarterly results highlight one of the biggest questions facing the technology sector: how much should investors tolerate today in exchange for potential AI growth tomorrow? For months, Big Tech companies have been competing to build larger data centres, secure advanced chips and expand their AI capabilities. The market initially rewarded this spending as evidence that these companies were positioning themselves for long-term growth. However, investors are becoming more selective. Strong revenue growth is no longer enough. They want to see whether AI investment can eventually translate into sustainable profits and free cash flow. Alphabet’s latest results demonstrate why this debate is becoming more important. Sh

Hold or Sell? 7 Earnings Reports, 7 Different Risks. Here Is My Playbook.

This is the part of earnings season I love. Within roughly 48 hours, we get results from: Microsoft. Alphabet. Amazon. Intel. Strategy. Coinbase. SanDisk. But I would make a mistake if I treated all seven the same. Some I would be comfortable holding. Some I would deliberately reduce. And for some, I would rather own the stock that reacts to their earnings than gamble on the reporter itself. My rule: The bigger the information gap, the smaller my pre-earnings position. Here is how I am approaching them. 🟢 1. GOOGL: MY FAVOURITE MEGA-CAP ASYMMETRY Alphabet enters tonight's report from a very different position from Microsoft. GOOG has already corrected from roughly $338.50 toward $314-$315. That matters. Expectations have come down. I want three things: Search resilience Google Cloud accele

🟢 Earnings Night Strategy: Riding Volatility with High Conviction Earnings announcements often trigger knee-jerk market reactions, but for long-term investors, single-quarter volatility is secondary to structural growth. Heading into earnings for high-conviction tech and semiconductor leaders, my default strategy is to Hold. Attempting to time earnings night exposes capital to Implied Volatility (IV) crush and irrational overnight swings. Instead of trimming quality compounders to avoid short-term noise, I focus on fundamental health: gross margin expansion, free cash flow conversion, and forward demand guidance. A quarterly report rarely dismantles a multi-year thesis. If a post-earnings sell-off occurs despite solid underlying metrics, I view the dip not as a signal to exit, but as a

MSFT vs GOOG - AI race is "On". Who wins ?

Q3 Earnings are here ! On Wed, 28 Oct 2026 the 2 megacap, tech giants - $Microsoft(MSFT)$ and $Alphabet(GOOG)$ announced their quarterly earnings, after US market closed. Both showed strong cloud growth but strangely enough, the market treated them very differently. MSFT shares popped after hours while GOOG stock sank. Why ? Preliminary analysis suggests that a big part of the answer is how each plan to pay for the massive outlays, both have planned. Accelerating Cloud Growth. (1) MSFT earnings at a glance: MSFT beat Wall Street's targets with sales/revenue up +19% YoY, reaching $92.3 billion and exceeding consensus estimates of approx. $90.63 billion. Earnings per share (GAAP) came in at $4.92. Net Incom
MSFT vs GOOG - AI race is "On". Who wins ?
TOPJC888: On Thursday, a day after Q3 earnings released, GOOG plummeted -12.29% on, closing at $282.32 amid a broader market sell-off. Drop was fueled by decelerating Search revenue growth and a surprise negative free cash flow of $9.07 billion driven by massive AI capital expenditures. While Google Cloud revenue surged 103% to $30.7 billion, it was NOT enough to offset investor panic over missed EPS expectations and aggressive spending forecasts.

[Earnings Recap] Amazon Falls 7%, Intel Plunges 23%. What's Wrong?

Thursday’s earnings showed that rapid AI growth no longer guarantees a positive stock reaction. Amazon reported AWS’s fastest expansion in nearly five years, but its shares fell as capital spending drove free cash flow deeply negative. Intel’s quarterly profit beat was overwhelmed by a weak forecast. Sandisk also slipped despite strong earnings and an 8-for-1 stock split announcement. Reddit plunged on slowing search traffic, while Eli Lilly rallied as demand for its weight-loss drugs continued to surge. $Amazon.com(AMZN)$ $Intel(INTC)$ $Reddit(RDDT)$ $SanDisk Corp.(SNDK)$ $Eli Lilly

🟢 Hold, 🔴 Sell, or 🟡 Wait? Why My Earnings Night Strategy relies on Implied Volatility and Asymmetric Risk Whenever earnings season arrives, retail investors often split into two emotional camps: those who gamble on a massive post-earnings gap-up, and those who panic-sell early to avoid a potential crash. However, approaching earnings with a binary “Hold or Sell” mindset treats the market like a casino. For me, navigating earnings night is strictly an exercise in probability, position sizing, and managing Asymmetric Risk. If I had to summarize my core stance, it is: 🟡 Wait for tactical entries, but 🟢 Hold long-term high-conviction compounders—provided position size is controlled. Here is the exact playbook and mental framework I execute during earnings season. 1. The Trap of Binary Thinkin

Earnings Night: I Don’t Let One Report Decide My Investment Whenever a company is about to report earnings, I think the real question is not simply whether the stock will go up or down the next day. Nobody knows that with certainty. The more important question is whether I am comfortable with what could happen if the market reacts very differently from what I expect. Personally, I would not automatically sell just because earnings are coming, nor would I blindly hold every position and hope for the best. My decision would depend on why I bought the stock, how much it has already run up, and how much downside I can realistically accept. 1. If I bought for the long term, I would not panic over one night If I invested in a company because I believe its business can grow over the next three to

“Be greedy when others are fearful, and be fearful when others are greedy.” This timeless investment principle is especially relevant when identifying quality stocks with strong long-term growth potential. When the market is driven by fear and panic, it may create opportunities to accumulate fundamentally strong companies at attractive valuations. Conversely, when euphoria takes over and everyone rushes to buy, it is time to remain cautious, assess valuations, and avoid being swept up by the crowd. The key is to invest in quality, not just cheap prices. Focus on companies with strong fundamentals, sustainable competitive advantages, healthy balance sheets, and the ability to generate consistent earnings and cash flow. **I hold MSFT and refuse to sell before earnings.** Microsoft remains one of the strongest compounders in the market. Azure continues to accelerate on AI demand, with growth expected in the mid-40s percent range and capacity still the main constraint rather than customer appetite. Copilot adoption is expanding enterprise-wide, supporting higher monetization across Microsoft 365 and the broader Intelligent Cloud business. The company’s scale, distribution, and balance sheet give it durable advantages that short-term volatility cannot erase. Selling ahead of the print would force me to time both the exit and a potential re-entry perfectly. History shows Microsoft often beats expectations and raises guidance, rewarding patient holders. SNDK: I’d trim, not chase the beat. SanDisk delivered a strong Q1 FY27: $11.03B revenue and $49.51 adjusted EPS; Q2 guidance is higher. But great results are not automatically a great entry price. The risk is that AI-storage growth and elevated NAND pricing are already priced for near-perfect execution. I’d watch whether data-center demand converts into durable margins, pricing holds as supply responds, and weakness in consumer NAND spreads. Consumer revenue fell 39% year over year—a reminder that not every segment shares the boom. My approach is to take partial profits after a strong run and keep a smaller position only if the thesis still holds. I’d buy a dip only if guidance and pricing remain firm—not just because the chart looks cheaper. A beat can still disappoint when expectations a

Would I Hold a Stock Overnight Before Earnings? It Depends on What I’m Risking Honestly, I don’t think holding a stock overnight before earnings is necessarily brave, and selling beforehand doesn’t mean someone lacks conviction. Both decisions can make sense. What matters is whether the potential reward is worth the risk of waking up to a price move I didn’t expect. Earnings announcements are different from ordinary trading days. A company can report decent results and still see its share price tumble, while another can rally even after reporting a loss. The market isn’t reacting only to what has already happened. It’s reacting to whether the results and outlook are better or worse than investors had anticipated. That is why I wouldn’t make my decision based on the headline numbers alone.
