🎉 Teacher’s Day Special: Which Teacher Left the Deepest Impression on You?

No matter where we are in the world, teaching is always one of the most respected professions.

In Singapore, Teacher’s Day falls on September 5, while in China, we celebrate it on September 10. 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫

A teacher isn’t just someone in the classroom — they can also be a friend, a parent, a stranger on the internet, or even an AI that suddenly appeared — like GPT or DeepSeek. As long as they bring us growth and inspiration, they can be considered our “teacher.”

When it comes to investing, do you have a “stock teacher” you’ve always followed in the Tiger Community?

It could be an expert who helps you read earnings reports, a veteran who teaches you to stay calm during market swings, or even legends like Buffett or Soros — whose wisdom has become our teacher, even if we’ve never met them. 📈

📌 Today, I’d love to ask everyone:

  • On this special day, which teacher comes to mind first?

  • Who is your favorite “stock teacher”? Would you recommend them to others?

  • Do you have a message of thanks you’d like to share with your teacher?

💬 Drop your thoughts in the comments! Let’s talk about the teachers who’ve inspired us most.

The teacher who comes to mind is my mentor at work. She inspires me and provides me with much wisdom in my work.

I don’t have a specific favour ‘stock teacher’ as different ‘masters’ have different strengths and have teach various topics with varying effectiveness. If I am interested in a specific topic, I will read or listen to YouTube videos on different ones to gain understanding from different perspectives.

To the various teachers in my life, I want to thank them for inspiring me to continue on lifelong learning, the ability to look at a problem from different perspectives and to solve problems with different approaches.

🌟🌟🌟There is a saying by the late Great Charlie Munger that set the course for me on my path to FIRE - Financial Independence Retire Early :

"The Big Money is not in the Buying and Selling but in the Waiting."

That is why Charlie Munger is the teacher that has made the biggest impact on my style of investing.   I have learnt patience and that time in the market is more important than timing the market.

Thank you Charlie Munger, you have made a difference in my life.

For me, my “stock teacher” isn’t just one person, but a mix of voices and experiences. I’ve learned a lot from users in the Tiger Community — their analysis and perspectives often spark new ways of thinking, and I truly value that. It feels like a place where we grow together, regardless of experience level.

I also see my own trading journey as a teacher. The best lessons come from actual experience — making trades, learning from mistakes, and reflecting on both wins and losses. Each outcome has shaped how I manage risk and spot opportunities. Over time, these lessons have built the foundation of my confidence in the market.

Lastly, I’m grateful for my group of trading colleagues. We exchange ideas, challenge views, and share insights regularly. Their support keeps me grounded during volatile times. Along with the Tiger Community and my own journey, they’ve all become teachers who continue to guide and inspire me.

It will be my Pri6 Maths Teacher. Thanks to her patience, that overnight I excelled very well in Maths. From E.Maths to A.Maths. Anything that improves calculation, I will do very well.

Maybe by having good Maths foundation, I tended to be very analytical/systematic when I m doing my work. In a way, it helps in my stocks purchase. [LOL][Happy][Smile][Chuckle]

Happy Teachers' Day. I am always touched by teachers who are generous and willing to go the extra mile. While I don't have one specific favourite teacher in the Tiger Community, I have been blessed by everyone's generous sharing and guidance. Thank you for being the best community to be a part of.

My biggest stock teacher was a scammer.
But thanks to him, I now spot scams faster than a cat spots a laser pointer.
He taught me everything—mostly what not to do.
So technically… he did his job. Just backwards. 😎

PCT: All Teachers Are Essential v1.0 :
    PCT = Pandas Coffee Talk.
I am a business admin degree holder. My degree is owned to all teachers from kindergarten to university. They shape me one way or the other.
I am so dying for investing knowledges. Now with social media. Teachers can be YouTube teachers. X teachers. Tigers & her AI. And so on. I owned it all you teachers. Without you. I cannot reach who I am.

  • Wishing all teachers a very Happy Teacher’s Day! Teaching comes with immense responsibility and requires so much passion, and I truly appreciate all the teachers who have touched my life and my children’s. Their dedication is truly admirable. I’m still in touch with my economics teacher thanks to Facebook :) I also hope to reconnect with my Chinese teacher, who never gave up on me. My chemistry teacher was also very inspiring but he has since passed on …. Treasure every teacher and be thankful for all the knowledge that we can learn it may not be useful now but will shape one’s thinking and determination

The first “teacher” who comes to mind for me is the market itself — strict, unpredictable, but always teaching. My favourite “stock teacher” would be Howard Marks. His memos are timeless lessons in risk, cycles, and humility. I’d recommend him to anyone who wants to learn how to think, not just what to buy.

A note of thanks: to every mentor (human or book) who reminded me that patience often pays better than speed, and that protecting capital is the real test of skill. The market may hand out harsh grades, but thanks to good teachers, at least we’re better prepared for the exam.

My greatest teachers in life have always been my parents. They were the first to open my eyes to the importance of savings, budgeting, and living within my means—lessons that have shaped the way I approach life and its challenges. But beyond the practical teachings, they have instilled in me values that go far deeper—integrity, kindness, resilience, and the strength to always choose what’s right, no matter the cost. Their love, unwavering support, and constant guidance have been my greatest blessings. I am forever grateful for the profound impact they’ve had on my life, and I will carry their lessons with me always.

  • Do teachers really need a dedicated day of recognition? They already enjoy good pay and long school holidays, while many essential workers—like cleaners, nurses, and dishwashers—receive none. Perhaps respect should be practiced daily, not saved for a special occasion. In today’s digital age, learning is no longer one-to-many; we learn from each other through sharing.

    它可能是幫助你閱讀收益報告的專家,教你在市場波動中保持冷靜的老手,甚至是像巴菲特或索羅斯這樣的傳奇人物——他們的智慧已經成爲我們的老師,即使我們從未見過他們。
